Praying the Lauds - Your Daily Christian Morning Prayer

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 16, 2023 | Thursday in the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

"Who do you say that I am?" - Mark 8:29

As Jesus asked his disciples, so He is also asking us. How have you personally experienced the Lord in your life?

God is indeed a powerful God who heals our sicknesses, intervenes in our life, and solves our problems. But we must remember that His way is through the cross and we can only understand who He is when we embrace our own crosses with Him. Indeed, Jesus is the Christ who journeys with us in our joys and sufferings and brings us to the eternal life we long and hope for.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 15, 2023 | Wednesday in the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

"To you, Lord, I will offer a sacrifice of praise." - Ps. 116:17

Everyday, God blesses us beyond what we can imagine and it takes the eyes of faith to recognize these blessings. Today is a new day to give thanks to God for all that we have received in life no matter how trivial it may seem, remembering also to thank him for the gift of life itself. Over time, with God's grace and our participation, we will see our faith growing and, hopefully, bearing fruit.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 14, 2023 | Memorial of Saints Cyril, monk, and Methodius, Bishop

"These are holy men who became friends of God, glorious heralds of divine truth." - Entrance antiphon

St. Cyril (827-869) was a priest and a philosopher and accompanied his brother St. Methodius (826-885) to Moravia to preach the Gospel. They both perfected a Slavonic alphabet which is now known as the Cyrillic alphabet and translated the liturgy into this language. They were summoned to Rome, where Cyril died on this date in 869, and Methodius was consecrated bishop and sent to Pannonia. Methodius died on April 6, 885, in Velehrad, Czech Republic, after working tirelessly on spreading the Gospel. (CatholicCulture.org)

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 12, 2023 | Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

"I have come not to annul (the Law) but to fulfill them." - Mt 5:17

How have you experienced God's love today?

Opening ourselves to God's daily manifestations of love helps us grow in faith, and enables us to share that love generously to others without counting the cost. When we immerse ourselves in God's unconditional love, obedience becomes easy, sacrifice becomes joy. Jesus embodies the fulfillment of God's law through his life, teaching, passion, death and resurrection, and He opens the gates of grace for those who believe. May we go beyond the requirements of the Law and seek always to love without measure.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 11, 2023 | Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes

"Blessed is the womb of the Virgin Mary, which bore the Son of the eternal Father." - Luke 11:27

The Church celebrates the Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes today, marking the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1858 to fourteen-year-old Marie Bernade (St. Bernadette) Soubirous. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, the Blessed Virgin appeared eighteen times, and showed herself to St. Bernadette in the hollow of the rock at Lourdes, France.

On March 25 she said to the little shepherdess who was only fourteen years of age: "I am the Immaculate Conception." Since then Lourdes has become a place of pilgrimage and many cures and conversions have taken place. The message of Lourdes is a call to personal conversion, prayer, and charity.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us!

Today marks the Thirty-First Anniversary of the World Day of the Sick.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 10, 2023 | Memorial of St. Scholastica, Virgin

"The holy virgins praise their Lord and King; come, let us join in their worship." - antiphon

St. Scholastica (480-547) was the twin sister of St. Benedict, the Patriarch of Western monasticism. She was born in Umbria, Italy, about 480. Under Benedict's direction, Scholastica founded a community of nuns near the great Benedictine monastery Monte Cassino. Inspired by Benedict's teaching, his sister devoted her whole life to seeking and serving God. She died in 547 and tradition holds that at her death her soul ascended to heaven in the form of a dove. LISTEN | Morning Prayer - February 7, 2023 | Tuesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

"O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!" - Ps. 8:2

God created us out of His goodness and love and we give praise to Him for all His magnificent creation. As stewards of His gifts, He has entrusted us to take care of the earth on His behalf in the way in which He intends.
