Praying the Lauds - Your Daily Christian Morning Prayer

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 17, 2023 | Memorial of St. Anthony, Abbot

"If you would be perfect, go, self what you have, give to the poor, and follow me, says the Lord." - Mt. 19:21

The Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Anthony, Abbot (251-356) from the 3rd century. St. Anthony, the father of monks, retired to the desert at about the age of eighteen in order to live in perfect solitude. He laid the foundations of community life, and gave to his disciples that profound broad and sane instruction, the mature result of solitude and prayer, which forms the surest basis of Christian asceticism.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 16, 2023 | Monday in the Second Week of Ordinary Time

"No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak. If he does, its fullness pulls away, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse." - Mark 2:21

What are the old ungodly ways and habits that God wants you to shed this year so as to accommodate the new ways of the Gospel? What is hindering you from growing in friendship with Jesus?

Faith is our response to God's loving initiative to us. This gift entails letting go of those that are not of the Lord. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in our journey of faith so that we may persevere in our transformation in Christ.

Together, we lift up to the Lord our praise and thanksgiving to Him for creating and recreating us in His love through His Word and the Eucharist. Listen, share and subscribe to Monday's Morning Prayer here: https://anchor.fm/dailymorningprayer

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 15, 2023 | Feast of the Sto. Niño

Holy Childhood Day / Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace" - Is. 9:6

God has indeed come down for us to become a little Niño, embracing the lowliness of our human nature so we can adore him as our mighty Lord even in the frailty of his childhood. May we follow him with sincere hearts eager to welcome his kingdom among us like a little child and to receive the reward promised to the humble.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 12, 2023 | Thursday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

"If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts." - Ps. 95:8

Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom and cured every disease among the people. Despite His best interests for us, we would often times stray from God's ways because of the demands and responsibilities of the Gospel, forgetting that His grace will always be sufficient for us. May we rekindle our friendship with Jesus and encounter Him more and more through His Word and the Sacraments.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 11, 2023 | Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

"The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes." - Mark 1:22

Jesus became human like us who knows our strengths and weaknesses, in order to plead on our behalf and understand our earthly struggles. He continues to cure people of their illnesses no matter what their complaint was. Even though He is God, He still prayed to the Father whenever he could and in private.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 10, 2023 | Tuesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

"The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes." - Mark 1:22

Do you recognize God's authority in your life?

The people of Jesus' time were amazed by how he speaks and recognized the authority with which he acts. As we begin the Ordinary Time, let us ask for the grace to recognize God's authority and conform our lives to it, for only then can we receive eternal life.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 9, 2023 | Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

"The heavens were opened and the voice of the Father thundered: This is my beloved Son, listen to him." - Mk. 9:7

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. This feast brings to an end the season of Christmas. The Church recalls Our Lord's second manifestation or epiphany which occurred on the occasion of His baptism in the Jordan. Jesus descended into the River to sanctify its waters and to give them the power to beget sons of God. The event takes on the importance of a second creation in which the entire Trinity intervenes.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - January 8, 2023 | Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord

"We have seen his star in the East, and have come with gifts to adore the Lord." - Mt. 2:2

The Epiphany of the Lord is Jesus’ manifestation not only to the three Magi from the East, but it’s also a symbolic but real manifestation of the Christ to the whole world.

By the guidance of a star, God revealed His only Begotten Son to the nations. As He did with the magi, God uses what is familiar in our lives in calling each of us to Himself. May His grace open our hearts to the "stars" that God is using to call us.
