Preach the Word!

Job was in a weird middle ground. On one hand, he explicitly affirmed his trust in the Lord. On the other hand, he expected the worst from God, as if God acted as his enemy, crushing him into the dust. The good thing is that despite our confusion, our God is rock-solid. Trust the faithful God!

The promises that await us in eternal heaven are glorious…they are the stuff for which we long, knowing that we will be with Jesus forever. But the only way we will experience it is if we know Jesus today. Have you been made a new creation in Christ? That is the only way we will know His new creation in eternity.

Job had many questions regarding his trials for which he didn’t have answers. But that doesn’t mean that his theology was wrong, despite the insinuations of his friends. Job could affirm God’s goodness and wisdom, because he knew the good and wise God. What are your reasons for believing the good things of God? It begins with knowing God. When we know Him in truth, then we can trust Him with the rest.

It is often said that there is a first time for everything, but if that is the case, then it follows that there is also a last/final time for everything, at least in terms of earthly activities. In a similar manner, just as there are many kingdoms and nations around the world, eventually there will be a final kingdom. And, as the Bible shows us, there will also be a final rebellion and a final judgment. All these things will come to an end, all according to the plan of God.

The second of Job’s friends, Bildad follows in the example set by Eliphaz, but he also brings up the issue of justice. Was it right, what God had allowed to happen to Job? Had Job accused God of injustice? As for us, we can rightly affirm that God is just, even in the times we don’t understand what is going on. Thankfully, even in the times we don’t understand, we have a Mediator to whom we can turn: the Lord Jesus Christ!

Every movie and book has a climax: that point to which the entire story builds upon which everything hangs. For action flicks, it is quite often a battle sequence, and the book of Revelation is no different. In Chapter 19, the much-anticipated return of the Lord Jesus Christ arrives, and with it comes a battle to end all battles. But there is no doubt as to the outcome of the battle: Jesus wins!

Job had legitimate issues, finding himself alone even among his friends, not having any help in bearing the burden. So what did he do? He took his complaints to God. Even if Job could not bring his praise, he brought his pain. And that was exactly the right thing to do! Job came boldly before the Lord, never giving up faith in God even when he didn’t understand what God was doing.

In Chapters 4-5, we find Eliphaz to be the first of Job’s friends to speak, and while he begins somewhat compassionately, he soon devolves into his standard script. Because he did, even the right things he said came with wrong application. He didn’t help Job; he ended up hurting him even more. When we find ourselves in trials, yes, we need truth…but we need truth properly applied, given in the compassion and mercies of Christ.

When God’s judgment finally comes to the city/system of Babylon, the reactions to its fall are varied. While multitudes are grieved due to the fall of their favorite city, heaven rejoices while Christians on earth are called to come out of Babylon. We still are. Come out of Babylon and choose Christ!
