Sometimes, godly people (like Job) suffer hard things. And the reason behind them is not always evident. What do we do when those hard times hit? Where/to whom do we turn? Turn to God; not away from Him. Don’t blame God for the bad things; trust Him in all things knowing that He is sufficient to sustain us!

In Revelation 17, John sees a bizarre sight of a harlot riding a hideous beast: the future evil system of Babylon, supported/empowered by Antichrist. As bad as they appear to be, the good news is that they are already declared to be defeated. Our God is sovereign, even over the worst people in the world, including His enemies. It is one more reason we should give Him our praise!

Chapter 12 is a fitting end to the book of Daniel. For all that we have read that emphasizes God’s sovereignty over the nations, we find in this final prophecy that God is sovereign over time and history itself. All things in this world are working unto God’s ultimate ends. We can trust Him to work it out!

As harsh as the seven bowl judgments will be, what God does through them is to strip away every last excuse of men and women to rebel against Him. Yes, the judgments are harsh…but they are expressions of tough love. This is the Almighty Righteous God giving humanity one final chance to believe upon Jesus and be saved.

Thus far in his visions, John had seen some difficult things as God poured out His judgment upon the earth during the Great Tribulation. But at some point, things would need to end. As John saw a preview of things to come, He saw not only the victory that belonged to the Lord Jesus Christ who is returning with power and glory for judgment, but he also saw a clear contrast between those who belong to God and those who do not. Jesus knows who are His…He always has.

As Daniel looked at the calendar, he saw that his people had been in captivity for decades. Did God still have plans for them in the future?
