Things will be truly difficult upon the earth during the Great Tribulation, but if there is one thing clear throughout it: as bad as things are, they aren’t as bad as they could be. God plainly restrains Himself, mercifully limiting the severity of destruction. The key is not to miss it. Don’t miss the mercies of God!

Daniel 2 is more than the story of a supernaturally-given dream with its supernaturally-given interpretation; it is the account of Almighty God revealing to a Gentile Babylonian king who really had power in the world. Nebuchadnezzar may have commanded the world’s superpower at the time; God had command over every nation of the world.

As elsewhere in the book of Revelation, there is much in this chapter that is debated among well-meaning theologians. What is beyond dispute is this: when you belong to Jesus, you are saved by Jesus. Those who believe today that Jesus is God will find that Jesus is the God who saves!

When it comes to the people of God, there are many areas in which we are at odds with the general culture in our world, and in these things there can be no compromise. The book of Daniel opens with such an event, showing that Daniel and his friends were unwilling to compromise their Biblical convictions.

Might Jesus use His omnipotent power in acts of vengeance? Yes! Although we often think of vengeance as being something bad, it isn’t…not when it is exercised in the right way for the right reason by the right authority. As the 5th and 6th seals demonstrate, Jesus is the right One to exercise vengeance, and He does so to the glory of God.

In Chapter 5, Jesus received the scroll; in Chapter 6, He opens it. It is with the opening of the seals that the Great Tribulation begins, and the infamous four horsemen come forth, bringing the first tastes of the God’s judgment upon the earth. In all of it, remember: this is not the world spinning out of control; Jesus remains in control the entire time. Our shelter and safety are found in Him.

Revelation 5 shows the heavenly throne room from John’s eyes as a search begins for One who is truly worthy just as God the Father is worthy. One was found: the Lord Jesus. Jesus is the One worthy of our worship, for Jesus is the One who personally paid the full price of our salvation.
