When Jeremiah stood near the temple and preached a message of God’s judgment upon Judah, the people didn’t like it and he was soon put on trial for his very life. His defense was simple: all he did was preach the word of God. If the people didn’t like it, that was their problem. God’s word is God’s word, whether we like it or not.

It is possible to do God’s will with God’s help. God wants us to live for Him, to do His work…and God makes it possible for us to do it. This is the good news that is contained in the gospel, of which we are reminded as the marvelous book of Hebrews comes to an end.

As Christians, we’ve got to pay attention to Biblical teaching! It means listening to the local leadership given us by God, but as long as what those leaders are teaching is Biblical, then it is inevitably going to lead us to Jesus and keep us looking to Jesus.

God’s word is true! Whether God’s word sounded ‘good’ to the people (or not), His word is always true. We are to receive His word, believe it, and speak it…because the things God says, He means.

Love truly is essential for the Christian, and the Christian has every reason to express love. Why? Because we belong to God! God has already done so much for us in Jesus. It is only right (and natural) that our faith in Christ finds expression in our lives through acts of love.

Although the privilege of royalty did not exempt the Davidic kings from God’s judgment, the promises of God’s grace were not removed. The sins of men can neither overcome the word of God, nor can they overcome the grace of God.

The races we begin, we want to finish. We neither want to get sidelined, nor to drop out. Instead, we keep our eyes focused on the prize of our high calling, and keep moving to Jesus. Keep making forward progress, and He will ensure you go all the way.

As Christians, we are to go all the way to Jesus, not stopping short. In the past, others have stopped short with grievous results. We need to be warned of their example.

God is the Potter, and we as His people are His clay. As the Potter, God will do what He wishes with us. How we respond to His work and will is up to us.

It isn’t easy when God takes us to the woodshed, but there are some great benefits that come from it. Our God is our loving heavenly Father, and our Lord Jesus already endured more than we can imagine. We can look to Him, knowing that He is with us, and that He’s always going to do what is best for us.
