  • Four Features needed for the Christian Journey
Each Christian is on a journey, and the destination is heaven, where Jesus has ascended to His Father’s right hand. While we wait for the Lord’s call to heaven, we are all on a journey, and there are four features we need for this journey. In this address, you will hear of these four features. Firstly, the need to have an altar—a daily communication with God himself through prayer. Secondly, the importance of finding food to sustain you along our journey. Thirdly, when difficulties come, we are not to be diverted from the divine highway. The fourth feature is to keep our eye on the heavenly goal.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Genesis 12:5-8 “5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had acquired, and the souls that they had obtained in Haran, and they went out to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.6 And Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.7 And Jehovah appeared to Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land. And there he built an altar to Jehovah who had appeared to him.8 And he removed thence towards the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, [having] Bethel toward the west, and Ai toward the east; and there he built an altar to Jehovah, and called on the name of Jehovah.”
Genesis 12:3-4 “3 And he went on his journeys from the south as far as Bethel; as far as the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai;4 to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.”
Exodus 16:13-15 “13 And it came to pass in the evening, that quails came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round the camp.14 And when the dew that lay [round it] was gone up, behold, on the face of the wilderness there was [something] fine, granular, fine as hoar-frost, on the ground.15 And the children of Israel saw [it], and said one to another, What is it? for they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which Jehovah has given you to eat.”
Psalm 84:5-7 “5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee,—they, in whose heart are the highways.6 Passing through the valley of Baca, they make it a well-spring; yea, the early rain covereth it with blessings.7 They go from strength to strength: [each one] will appear before God in Zion.”
Philippians 3:13 “13 Brethren, *I* do not count to have got possession myself; but one thing—forgetting the things behind, and stretching out to the things before,14 I pursue, [looking] towards [the] goal, for the prize of the calling on high of God in Christ Jesus.”

  • What shall I do?
“What shall I do?” This is  a question we often ask when problems arise in our lives. The Gospel is preached again to point you to the Saviour, Jesus Christ and the wonderful salvation he has provided when he went to Calvary’s cross. The Gospel is an invitation to you from God himself. What then shall I do with Jesus?
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Mark 10:17 “17 And as he went forth into the way, a person ran up to [him], and kneeling to him asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
Mark 10:25-26 “25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.26 And they were exceedingly astonished, saying to one another, And who can be saved?”
Acts 16:25-32 “25 And at midnight Paul and Silas, in praying, were praising God with singing, and the prisoners listened to them.26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison shook, and all the doors were immediately opened, and the bonds of all loosed.27 And the jailor being awakened out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison opened, having drawn a sword was going to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had fled.28 But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm, for we are all here.29 And having asked for lights, he rushed in, and, trembling, fell down before Paul and Silas.30 And leading them out said, Sirs, what must I do that I may be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.32 And they spoke to him the word of the Lord, with all that were in his house.”
Matthew 27:22 “22 Pilate says to them, What then shall I do with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all say, Let him be crucified.”

  • The Face of Jesus
Throughout the whole of history there was no one like Jesus. The Lord Jesus was set apart from everyone else he knew no sin he was perfect. God proclaimed on the mountain of transfiguration with a bright light shining on the face of Jesus, “This* is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him”. The Gospel is preached to point you to this glorious saviour, Jesus Christ who journeyed to Calvary’s cross to save you from your sins.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
2 Corinthians 4:5-6 “5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus Lord, and ourselves your bondmen for Jesus’ sake.6 Because [it is] the God who spoke that out of darkness light should shine who has shone in our hearts for the shining forth of the knowledge of the glory of God in [the] face of [Jesus] Christ.”
Matthew 17:1-2 “17 And after six days Jesus takes with [him] Peter, and James, and John his brother, and brings them up into a high mountain apart.2 And he was transfigured before them. And his face shone as the sun, and his garments became white as the light;”
Matthew 17:5 “5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, *This* is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him.”
Matthew 26:36-39 “36 Then Jesus comes with them to a place called Gethsemane, and says to the disciples, Sit here until I go away and pray yonder.37 And taking with [him] Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and deeply depressed.38 Then he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful even unto death; remain here and watch with me.39 And going forward a little he fell upon his face, praying and saying, My Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me; but not as *I* will, but as *thou* [wilt].”
Matthew 26:66-68 “66 What think ye? And they answering said, He is liable to the penalty of death.67 Then they spit in his face, and buffeted him, and some struck him with the palms of their hand,68 saying, Prophesy to us, Christ, Who is it who struck thee?”
Revelation 22:4-5 “4 and they shall see his face; and his name [is] on their foreheads.5 And night shall not be any more, and no need of a lamp, and light of [the] sun; for [the] Lord God shall shine upon them, and they shall reign to the ages of ages.

  • Behold the man!
The Gospel points you to a saviour for sinners who came to this earth to bring salvation for mankind. Who is this? The Bible tells there is only one name under heaven by which we must be saved and it is the Lord Jesus Christ.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
John 19:1-5 “19 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus and scourged [him].2 And the soldiers having plaited a crown of thorns put it on his head, and put a purple robe on him,3 and came to him and said, Hail, king of the Jews! and gave him blows on the face.4 And Pilate went out again and says to them, Lo, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find in him no fault whatever.5 (Jesus therefore went forth without, wearing the crown of thorn, and the purple robe.) And he says to them, Behold the man!”
Luke 2:8-14 “8 And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.9 And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.10 And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;11 for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David’s city, who is Christ [the] Lord.
12 And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.”

  • Beginnings
We are beginning an new year and by God’s wonderful grace the Gospel is still being proclaimed to mankind. What wonderful love is shown to us by God. Over 2000 years ago the Lord Jesus came into the world to save sinners and bring salvation by going to Calvary’s cross.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Psalms 111:10 “10 The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do [his precepts]: his praise abideth for ever.”
Mark 1:1-10 “Beginning of the glad tidings of Jesus Christ, Son of God;2 as it is written in [Isaiah] the prophet, Behold, *I* send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way.3 Voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of [the] Lord, make his paths straight.4 There came John baptising in the wilderness, and preaching [the] baptism of repentance for remission of sins.
5 And there went out to him all the district of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem, and were baptised by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.6 And John was clothed in camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey.7 And he preached, saying, There comes he that is mightier than I after me, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to stoop down and unloose.8 *I* indeed have baptised you with water, but *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit.
9 And it came to pass in those days [that] Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptised by John at the Jordan.10 And straightway going up from the water, he saw the heavens parting asunder, and the Spirit, as a dove, descending upon him.11 And there came a voice out of the heavens: *Thou* art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.”
Luke 24:45-47 “45 Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,46 and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.”
Revelation 22:13-16 “13 *I* [am] the Alpha and the Omega, [the] first and [the] last, the beginning and the end.14 Blessed [are] they that wash their robes, that they may have right to the tree of life, and that they should go in by the gates into the city.
15 Without [are] the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and every one that loves and makes a lie.
16 *I* Jesus have sent mine angel to testify these things to you in the assemblies. *I* am the root and offspring of David, the bright [and] morning star.”

  • Jesus emptied himself
Jesus gave himself to save you from your sins. The Gospel is preached to announce to mankind that salvation is available by the victorious work of the Lord Jesus.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Philippians 2:6-11 “6 who, subsisting in the form of God, did not esteem it an object of rapine to be on an equality with God;7 but emptied himself, taking a bondman’s form, taking his place in [the] likeness of men;8 and having been found in figure as a man, humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, and [that the] death of [the] cross.9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and granted him a name, that which is above every name,10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of heavenly and earthly and infernal [beings],11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord to God [the] Father’s glory.”

  • God has manifested His works, His Son and His Love
In this Gospel you will hear of three ways that God has manifested himself to mankind. The three scriptures you will occupied with in this preaching show us that God has manifested his works, God has manifested His Son, Jesus Christ and God has manifested his love.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
John 9:1-3 “9 And as he passed on, he saw a man blind from birth.2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this [man] or his parents, that he should be born blind?3 Jesus answered, Neither has this [man] sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be manifested in him.”
1 John 3:8 “8 He that practises sin is of the devil; for from [the] beginning the devil sins. To this end the Son of God has been manifested, that he might undo the works of the devil.”
Romans 5:8 “8 but God commends *his* love to us, in that, we being still sinners, Christ has died for us.”

  • Jesus the turning point
Jesus is the turning point that leads to eternal blessing. Many people today are searching for hope but without the Lord Jesus as Saviour many find themselves short of hope. Over 2000 years ago, Jesus came into this world on a rescue mission to save you from your sins and bring you peace with God. Jesus is the turning point that leads to these blessings.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Isaiah 53:6 “6 All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all.”
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 “and how ye turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 10 and to await his Son from the heavens, whom he raised from among the dead, Jesus, our deliverer from the coming wrath.”

  • God is Seeking you
The Bible tells us that “God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself”. God is seeking you and he desires for you to be saved. The Lord Jesus came into the world to seek and to save that which was lost.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Psalms 14:2 “Jehovah looked down from the heavens upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.”
Luke 15:1-7 “15 And all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near to him to hear him;2 and the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This [man] receives sinners and eats with them.
3 And he spoke to them this parable, saying,4 What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost, until he find it?5 and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing;6 and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep.
7 I say unto you, that thus there shall be joy in heaven for one repenting sinner, [more] than for ninety and nine righteous who have no need of repentance.”
Luke 19:1-10 “19 And he entered and passed through Jericho.2 And behold, [there was] a man by name called Zacchaeus, and he was chief tax-gatherer, and he was rich.
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was: and he could not for the crowd, because he was little in stature.4 And running on before, he got up into a sycamore that he might see him, for he was going to pass that [way].5 And when he came up to the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for to-day I must remain in thy house.6 And he made haste and came down, and received him with joy.7 And all murmured when they saw [it], saying, He has turned in to lodge with a sinful man.
8 But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I return [him] fourfold.9 And Jesus said to him, To-day salvation is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;10 for the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost.”
John 4:23 “or also the Father seeks such as his worshippers.”
