In this message, we consider Psalm 100, a psalm of thanksgiving to God for the glorious advent of the kingdom of God on earth. Then we examine Psalm 101, a psalm in which David speaks of the glorious future he is going to have in the kingdom of God. When David speaks of the perfect government and righteous court he is going to have, we do not see the starry-eyed idealism of a young David imagining how great his court is going to be before he grew up and had to settle for the sad reality of the way his court really was. Instead, we see a Divine revelation of the perfect court David will preside over in the coming Kingdom of God, when David is raised from the dead to rule over Israel once again.

In this message, we consider Psalm 98, which Rotherham calls the first of a shorter, two-psalm “service of song” for the Sabbath day. It starts out with a psalm of praise, wherein the whole earth sings a new song to Jehovah celebrating the advent of His glorious kingdom. Psalm 99 follows up with further exaltation of Yahweh’s reign over the earth through His holy government.

In this message, we consider Psalm 97, the final in the series of psalms for a Sabbath service of song, which may well have been put together by good King Hezekiah. It celebrates Jehovah’s assumption of sovereignty, as He becomes King and subjects and enlightens the whole world. All governments melt before Him and the rulers praise Him. Those who worship idols are ashamed, but His people of Zion rejoice. All who love Jehovah have great cause to rejoice!

In this message, we consider Psalm 96, another psalm from what Rotherham suggests is a six-psalm “service of song” for the Sabbath day, Psalm 92:1. All the earth is called on to sing to Jehovah, to exalt and praise Him, and to declare His glories among the nations, whose gods are no more than idols, whereas Jehovah made the heavens. All nations should give Jehovah the glory due His reputation. He speaks of the time to come when it is proclaimed that Yahweh reigns over all nations, to the rejoicing and happiness of the earth.

In this message, we complete our study of the book of James. In order to rightly divide James, we must recognize a jump in time between chapter 4 and chapter 5 to the future and the tribulation period. James rebukes the rich living then, and encourages endurance until the Lord’s great parousia presence on earth begins. Then, he shares some last rules for conduct. They are not to swear. They should pray, sing psalms, and give thanks. If they are sick, they are to call the elders to pray over them and anoint them with oil, and their sins would be forgiven. We discuss how this reflects the Acts period in which they lived. They should not give up on prayer. It is good to turn an erring brother back to the right way.

In this message, we consider another Psalm of the series of six Psalms under the title of “A Psalm or Song for the Sabbath Day.” It was apparently a series put together by the good King Hezekiah. They are to cry for joy to the LORD and come before Him with singing because He is a great King. This is speaking, not of today, but of the future when He will make all the governments of this world His Own. They, Israel, were the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. He urges them not to harden their hearts as their ancestors did in the wilderness, and He swore they would never enter His rest. This passage was quoted prominently in Hebrews, and we discuss its important meaning.

In this message, we consider Psalm 94, the third of the series of six that form a “Service of Song” for the Sabbath day. The author may be Hezekiah or one of his servants, or even the prophet Isaiah of his days. The psalmist questions God as to how long the wicked will triumph? He points out to the wicked that it is foolish to think that the One Who made our eyes and ears cannot see and hear us. Those whom God disciplines and teaches are favored by Him, and He will not cast them off. Jehovah will defend them, but He will rise against the wicked to their destruction.

In this message, James speaks to the Jews in the dispersion about their fighting among themselves, and failing to get what they ask for from God. The Spirit and the world battle; they needed to draw near to God. Those who judge the law are not doers of the law, he points out. They are not to make plans as if they were certain, but to submit all to the Lord’s will.
