Water baptism by immersion, by sprinkling, or by pouring? Or is there another baptism more important than either of these?

We consider the meaning of the word “baptism” as it is used in Scripture, and from the various meanings we conclude what is set forth by the Bible as the most important baptism.

Throughout the history of Christendom, no ritual has been given so much importance as that of water baptism. Yet it has constantly been the cause of much controversy and contention.Many questions are raised by water baptism. Should it be by immersion or by pouring or by sprinkling? Should only clergy perform it, or can any baptized person baptize others? Should it be done in a church, or at an outdoor body of water? Should it be done on believers or infants? Should it be done in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, or in the name of Jesus Christ? Does it wash away sins, or is it merely the first sign of obedience of a believer? Only a study of the Bible can answer such questions. There is only one way to get at the truth: careful study of the Scriptures. We begin such a study in this message, considering one Lord, one faith…four baptism?

In this message, we consider Christ’s earthly ministry during the thirty-three years of His time on earth. The Gospel Period is centered around the incarnation, and is recorded in the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The four gospels have different purposes and focuses, presenting Jesus Christ from different perspectives. The climax point in all four gospels is the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord. We consider these things, and the truths related to Christ’s earthly ministry.

In this message, we consider the final two psalms in the book. The last five psalms are “Hallelujah” psalms, probably written by good King Hezekiah, who may have finalized the book. Psalm 149 is given as a new song for Israel. Presenting the nation as it will exist in the glorious kingdom of God to come. Finally, Psalm 150 is an invitation to all flesh to praise and worship Israel’s Mighty God, Yehovah. Then, as we close out the book, considering “Psalm 151” as it appears in the Septuagint, and finally giving our closing comments on the book.

In this message, we continue this psalm in which David speaks of God’s constant knowledge of him, yet does that mean God takes such constant knowledge of all people, and pays attention to everything that happens? David as God’s representative could not escape from His presence. He had formed him in the womb, and fashioned his days in advance. God’s thoughts were precious to David. He calls on God to destroy the wicked, and to search him to see if there is any wicked way in him, and then lead him in the outflowing way.

In this message, in Psalm 138, King David writes a psalm of public thanks to God for advancing him to the throne of Israel. Yet this psalm also looks forward prophetically to the day when God governs the earth and Jesus Christ reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords. In Psalm 139, David speaks of Yehovah’s knowledge of him, and that He pays attention to the intimate details of his life. Many spread this out to everyone and say that God pays attention to every little thing about us. But is it correct to take these statements about David’s relationship with Yahweh and spread them out to everyone?
