They start with a couple of volleyball updates: Potts Camp opened Region 3-1A play with a big win over West Union (2:09), while Belmont took down 1-3A foe Booneville (4:45).

On the gridiron, Houston edged Shannon in a defensive slugfest (6:47), and Dy'Lan Johnson led Baldwyn to a Skunk Bowl victory (8:19).

Looking ahead to Week 3, Shannon will try to bounce back with a trip to Pontotoc (9:29) in what will be a very soggy affair. Unbeaten Myrtle(!) will host Belmont (11:33), and West Point looks for its first win of the season against Noxubee County (13:36).

Shannon, with its assortment of weapons, will try to get over the hump against Houston (8:24). And West Point visits Starkville in what's expected to be a physical, close game (10:26).

Brad and Brendan are here to break down Week 1 of the high school football season. Among the notable matchups: Tupelo hosts Whitehaven (6:53); Biggersville visits Hamilton (8:35); and Amory opens its new stadium against Pontotoc (10:32).

Also back is Tupelo runner Andrew Brown, who is once again eligible to compete in MHSAA events and opened his season in dominating fashion (5:16).

In volleyball news, Tupelo beat Starkville to remain atop the region standings (1:52), and Ingomar just keeps rolling right along (3:38).

Football season draws ever nearer. Brad went down to Calhoun County this week and has a story about the Bruce, Calhoun City and Vardaman programs (5:23). This weekend, several area teams will participate in preseason jamborees (7:12) in preparation for next week's season openers.

Football preseason camp is in full swing. Brad has an update on Hamilton's Kyzer Verner (4:56), who is back on the field after missing last season. Over at Ripley, the Tigers are hoping to withstand heavy personnel losses on the defensive side of the ball (7:02).
