YM EP 408 features Ryan van Asten, a Strength and Conditioning coach and sports scientist who oversees the X-Factory Wellness Centre in Calgary.
Before his current role, he was the Director of Sports Performance with the Calgary Flames for nine seasons. Prior to his time with the Flames, he was the strength and Conditioning Coach for the Los Angeles Kings, who won two Stanley Cups in three years, in 2012 and 2014.
Ryan recently retired from a 12-year NHL career, began working with X-Factor, and published a book called "Complete Conditioning for Hockey".
He also served as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for Hockey Canada from 2008-11 and was in the same role as the National Luge team during the same period.
Ryan played Jr. hockey with the Ajax Axemen before attending Queen’s University and playing hockey at the U Sports level for 4 seasons. After a brief stint in professional hockey in Europe, Ryan began pursuing his passion for developing hockey players through strength & conditioning programming.
Above all his accomplishments, he is also a husband and father of two young girls. Please enjoy the podcast.
