Prepare for Life

Come to Him today with whatever it is that concerns your heart.  Turn to the Lord, lean into Him and release all those worries, large and small. He promises to make an exchange with you, your worries for His deep transcending peace.

How do we become mighty in the Spirit of God?  Is there a stack of must-read books?  An accredited course we need to take?  Is there a certain pod cast we must to listen to or a particular church that will give us the proper credentials?  What will make us mighty in the Spirit in God’s eyes?

If there ever was a person in the Bible who could have pulled rank it was a man named James.  When he wrote the epistle of James he could have impressed his readers with something like, “This book is from James, the beloved blood brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are scattered.”  Anyone who picked up the letter would have immediately been alerted to the fact that they were reading the words of someone who was very important.  They had better pay attention to what he said because James had the inside track, his big brother was Jesus himself!

She was raised in exile on foreign soil. Her family was taken captive by invaders and removed from their homeland a couple of generations before her birth.  She was a female, in her culture she was considered expendable.  She became an orphan at a very young age.  As a teenager she was taken into a hoard of women who were made available for the pleasure of a powerful man.  As a young adult she was told that she must keep her ethnic identity hidden.  She had so many strikes against her.  Alone, insignificant, disposable, disregarded, she seems the least likely candidate for someone who would change the world.  Yet that is exactly what Esther of the Old Testament did.

God has a plan for your individual life. He knows your gifts, abilities and opportunities. He has good works for you to walk in. We need to seek the Lord daily to find His guidance for our individual lives. He wants you on the right track. Hebrews 12:1-2 gives insight into how to run this race. There is more to it than just showing up. Practice, training, focus and perseverance all go into a successful race.

In Ephesians Paul focuses on our walk in Christ, and he tells us to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Walking implies slow movement, one foot in front of the other, daily progress. And when we stumble or fall, we get back up again and keep on walking with the Lord on the path that He shows us. Taking and passing His daily tests will strengthen our walk and cause us to mature in our faith and represent Christ well.

Jehovah Sabaoth - This name for God is used in the Bible more than any other compound name. It carries a very important concept.  It means the Lord of the hosts.  Jehovah Sabaoth is the commander-in-chief of the heavenly armies.  He is all-powerful, he has all authority.  This name expresses the truth that God isn’t just good, He is great and He is able.

Who knew?  If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ you are at war.  You may be a lover of peace, someone who doesn’t like confrontation, a person who likes to avoid conflict; but whether you like it or not, you are at war. War has been declared against you.

Since we are in a spiritual war we need to understand the rules of engagement and the strategies of the enemy. We cannot be passive, we must gird ourselves, be on guard and protected from those schemes.  We also need to know the Lord’s strategies that equip us to stand and prevail. Victory is within our grasp but we have to do our part.

One of the key strategies that we must employ in spiritual warfare is praise.
