Three major summits - among the EU leaders, NATO, and the G7 - took place in Brussels on Thursday and Friday, where the primary aim was to show Western unity against Russia's war in Ukraine. President Joe Biden also traveled to Brussels, and stressed that "the single most important thing is for us to stay unified.” A central topic of discussion for EU leaders was on additional sanctions targeting Russian oil and gas, an issue that has divided European countries. Aside from President Biden’s participation, Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy also addressed the EU’s leaders via video, calling out countries that have resisted imposing additional sanctions. The summit also saw the US and EU announce a new partnership to reduce the continent’s reliance on Russian energy.
