Cam Ward just had the best game of his career. It still ended in overtime.

The Titans fell 43-36 to the Bengals at Paycor Stadium. Ward went 26-of-40 for a career-high 304 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. He added 41 rushing yards and a two-point conversion. It was his first 300-yard game as a pro, and it came without Carnell Tate and in the first game after the Jeffery Simmons trade. Tony Pollard ran for 117 yards and two scores. Amani Hooker intercepted Joe Burrow three times. The offense finally looked functional. The defense could not stop Burrow, who threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns before running for the winner in OT.

Tennessee led late in the fourth. They pushed a 4-2 Bengals team into overtime as double-digit underdogs. They also dropped to 1-7. One career day does not erase the season, but it is the clearest sign yet of what Ward can be when the offense is clicking.

The Titans head to Cincinnati for their first game without Jeffery Simmons.

Tennessee is 1-6. The Bengals are 4-2 and coming off a 35-13 win in Baltimore. Joe Burrow has 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are still the problem. The Titans just traded their best defensive player for two first-round picks and a fourth. Saleh called it necessary. The defensive line is now thinner against one of the better offenses in the league.

Cam Ward is still searching for consistency. The Titans have not led at halftime all season. Tony Pollard ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns against the Browns, but the offense remains limited. Cincinnati’s pass game is clicking, and they are in the middle of a tight AFC North race.

Jeffery Simmons is a Chicago Bear.

The Titans traded the All-Pro defensive tackle and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Bears for a 2027 first, a 2027 fourth, and a 2028 first. It is the first time a defensive tackle has been moved for multiple first-round picks in the common draft era. Simmons is 29, coming off an 11-sack All-Pro season, and still had four sacks in seven games this year. He signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension in June. Now he is gone.

Robert Saleh did not sugarcoat it. “It sucks. Everything about it sucks. Unfortunately, it was necessary.” Mike Borgonzi said the team was not shopping Simmons until Ryan Poles called Wednesday night with an offer too big to turn down. Simmons did not want to leave. Amy Adams Strunk thanked him for what he gave the city on and off the field.

The Titans are 1-6. The Bears are 5-2 and going all-in. The return is real. The hole on the defensive line is also real. Dead money hits in 2027. The rebuild under Saleh and Borgonzi just got clearer.

The Titans got their first win of the season. It was not pretty, and the offense still has a long way to go. Defense and special teams took over in the second half and flipped a 13-0 hole at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Titans 26, Colts 20. Tennessee is now 1-5. First win of the Saleh era. Colts outgained the Titans 399-186 and held the ball for nearly 39 minutes. They also turned it over three times, got sacked six times, and watched special teams change the game.

Chimere Dike’s 58-yard punt return set up Cam Ward’s 8-yard touchdown to Carnell Tate. James Williams Sr. blocked a punt, and Femi Oladejo returned it for a score. Joey Slye went 4-for-4, including a 56-yarder and the go-ahead 49-yarder. Jeffery Simmons forced and recovered a Jonathan Taylor fumble and finished with two sacks. Jermaine Johnson added two more. Amani Hooker had 13 tackles and an interception.
Cam Ward finished 11-of-22 for 102 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Tony Pollard had 76 yards on 19 carries. The offense found just enough. The rest of the team did the heavy lifting.

The Titans are in rare air. Back-to-back 3-14 seasons in 2024 and 2025, then a 0-5 start in 2026. Three consecutive seasons of five or fewer wins almost never happens in the modern NFL. Most teams dig out of one bad year or a two-year hole. Three straight is usually a multi-year organizational failure.

Robert Saleh is not the coach who dug that hole. He is Year 1. He inherited the two 3-14 seasons, Cam Ward in Year 2, Brian Daboll, and Mike Borgonzi. Now the question is what his vision is supposed to produce, and what history says a turnaround actually looks like once new leadership is in place.

In this solo episode, Lem goes through the clearest modern comps of teams that posted five or fewer wins in consecutive seasons and what Year 3 looked like:

-Cleveland Browns (1-15, 0-16, then 7-8-1 with Baker Mayfield)
-Detroit Lions (0-16, 2-14, then 6-10 with a healthier Matthew Stafford)
-Jacksonville Jaguars (1-15, 3-14, then 9-8 and a division title with Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson)
-St. Louis Rams (2-14, 1-15, then 7-9)
-The Titans’ own 2014–16 stretch (2-14, 3-13, then 9-7)

Year 3 is rarely a contender. The realistic outcomes are usually 6–9 wins with some competence, or a sharper jump when a new competent coach pairs with a Year 2 high-end quarterback and better roster construction. The Jaguars and the Titans’ own previous rebuild are the optimistic markers. The Browns and Lions show how slow and incomplete the recovery can still be.

Saleh has said one game will not define them and that this organization will have its day in the sun. The question is what that actually requires in his first year, and whether the current path matches the comps that eventually got out.

The Titans scored on their first drive. Then Houston shut them out the rest of the way.

Texans 26, Titans 3. Tennessee is now 0-5. In a matchup of two winless teams, the visitors got their first win of the season and made it look like the clearer roster on the field.

Joey Slye’s 30-yard field goal put Tennessee up 3-0. After that, Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked four field goals, C.J. Stroud scored on a 2-yard run, and he hit Jaylin Noel for a 9-yard touchdown. The Titans finished with a season-low 187 total yards. Two turnovers — a Tyjae Spears fumble and a Cam Ward interception — gave Houston short fields. Will Anderson Jr. sacked Ward three times, including on fourth-and-20 and fourth-and-19.

Cam Ward finished 23-of-36 for 170 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. He was sacked four times. After the game he said he is not a loser, even if the record says otherwise. Jeffery Simmons put it simpler: “We are not playing winning football right now.”

The Titans shut Baltimore out after halftime and still lost.

Lamar Jackson left at the half with an ankle. Tyler Huntley was 8-of-9 for 63 yards. Tennessee did not give up another point. The score was already 24-7, and that hole was built before the break.

In this solo recap of Titans 18, Ravens 24, we go through the series that decided it: first-and-goal at the 8, trailing 14-7, seven or eight straight snaps to Tony Pollard, zero passes, Cam Ward not under center, and a wildcat direct snap on fourth-and-goal from the 2. Stuffed. Baltimore answered with a 98-yard touchdown drive. That is a 14-point swing on one series.

Cam Ward’s line was his best of the year: 20-of-31, 222 yards, a touchdown, an interception, and a 22-yard run that is a career long. Carnell Tate had the first real skill-player proof of the season — 9 catches, 145 yards — then fumbled at the end of a 33-yarder and watched Baltimore kick a 64-yarder. Derrick Henry was held to 73 yards on 23 carries. The defense did its job after the break. The offense still does not have a red-zone identity.
