Press Play to Save: Video Game News and Reviews on the Cheap

In this episode of Press Play to Save the crew inadvertently reviews all Iphones ever. Corey gives his take on F2P Dizzel and gushes over his new free zombie survival game, Unturned. Chris still hasn't lost his Diablo3 hardcore hero, and Howie swears off gaming permanently after confessing his love to Spellfall only to be left betrayed, heartbroken, and curled in a corner. We chat about Destiny, the new start up Gamelock, and the Steam discovery update. Sit back, relax, and press play!

In this jam packed episode 57, Chris battles on against the forces of evil in the new Diablo3 update while reevaluating his career thinking he should have become a marine biologist, Howie falls deeper and deeper into the dark abyss of the Dota2 addiction, and Corey finally learns who he is supposed to call as he ventures through Ghostbusters on iOS. The Rektreational tournament is still at large and PLM marches on to victory, Nintendo finds their only chance of survival is more Smash Broâ€s, and we all feel like worse human beings in the new segment “in lieu of GG”. Also, 2.5 billion dollars?!

Special Guest Garrick gives us the Gencon rundown before Corey admits to starting over AGAIN in Landmark. We also gush about a new iOS game that has all of our attentions before reviewing news nuggets like a new 3DS and the free-to-play report.  Also, Sims 4 has EAIDS.

Show Notes

In this weekâ€s too-hot-to-drop episode, we “weave” the tales of The Rektreational, Round 1, with a Pit Lord Meta win over Swaghanimâ€s Scepter.  We also dig into Sonyâ€s own mystification at the PS4â€s success and try to figure out what purpose Reddit serves on an Xbox.  Then we inappropriately touch on Gencon before dipping into what weâ€ve been playing, where Chris gushes anew for ‘Path of Exile†and its forthcoming update before Corey sings the lamentations of importing a SRthe3rd character into Saints Row IV.  Itâ€s a hootenanny!

Today we blast into the past on the laser-lined coattails of our special guest, video game historian and Nintendo super-fan Ed Soper!  We also go in deep for the what-weâ€re playing-segment, revisiting Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Guitar Hero, and we cram in a little more exposition on DotA2 as a springboard into Smite, a new Action/MMO-style MOBA from the team that brought you Tribes: Ascend, all before going deep on the current state of gorgeous/addictive side-scrollers in the modern age.

Iâ€m not saying that listening will cure Ebola, but *not* listening certainly wonâ€t!

HAVE YOU GOT SPORTS FEVER?! Well, put the soccer ball down already because we get in deep with all the eSports madness going on in the wide world of games. We cover EVO and the carnal gratification in watching 3d dudes beat up other 3d dudes, The International (DotA2 for the uninitiated) and itâ€s streaming-for-dummies innovations, and Chris gives us the DL on The Rektreational (the DotA2 tournament for gaming industry insiders), with no small amount of trash talk, to boot.

Then we burn through some NEWs, especially pertaining to Xbox ONE features that you probably thought were ready at launch… and arenâ€t… quite yet. We also touch on the PS Network (not) being hacked again, along with limp PS4 sales in Japan.

The games on the board this week are Kingdom Rush (because you KNEW this one would come back around eventually), Mortal Kombat 9 with its lovely story mode, and Howie reveals that heâ€s finally made a new gen console purchase… sorta.
