What happens when the life you prayed for starts happening—but your mind is still bracing for what could go wrong?
In this episode of Pretty Intentional, I’m exploring something I’m learning in real time: I know how to survive, achieve, push forward, and figure out what’s next. But I’m realizing I haven’t always known how to simply receive—to sit in the fullness of a good moment without minimizing it, moving the goalpost, or immediately searching for something bigger.
From surviving cancer to watching dreams come to life, including debuting Meet H.E.R. at ESSENCE Festival, I’m learning that there’s a difference between making every moment count and actually being present enough to experience it.
Maybe healing isn’t only about recovering from what hurt us. Maybe it’s also learning to trust joy, receive answered prayers, and stop living as though the other shoe is always about to drop.
I didn’t survive to not live. Now I’m learning what it means to actually live like I’m finally home.

Is vanity really so bad—or have we misunderstood what it can mean?
In this episode of Pretty Intentional, Candice explores the idea that vanity can be sanity: a ritual of self-love, maintenance, identity, and choosing yourself. From losing her hair, brows, lashes, and sense of familiarity during cancer treatment to navigating reconstructive surgery, body changes, and beauty enhancements, she reflects on learning to enjoy beauty without becoming dependent on it.
The conversation also goes deeper into the history of women—particularly Black women—using appearance as currency, survival, respectability, and access, and what it means to reclaim vanity without centering men. Plus, we’re talking about dating yourself, setting your own baseline for care, and the beauty rituals we may have lost somewhere along the way. Because maybe Grandma wasn’t doing the most with those 100 brush strokes after all.
Vanity doesn’t have to mean insecurity or obsession. Sometimes, tending to yourself simply says: I am worth the effort—even when no one else is watching.
Because you are the occasion.

The dating pool isn’t trash… it’s just smaller when you know yourself.
In this episode, Candice gets real about her dating life (yes, finally) and unpacks what it means to be single by choice—not by lack.
From shutting down wild speculation to exploring why so many women would rather be alone than under-loved, this conversation challenges the narrative around dating, standards, and self-worth.
If you’ve ever felt like:
This episode is for you.
Have you ever had a moment where life felt… personal?
Like no matter how hard you try, something keeps falling apart.
Like the setbacks aren’t random — they’re targeted.
In today’s episode, Candice opens up about her own experiences with loss, disappointment, and adversity — from financial setbacks and job loss to cancer and pregnancy loss — and the quiet question that can follow:
“Does God hate me?”
But instead of staying in that question, this conversation challenges it.
What if repeated hardship isn’t always punishment… but pattern?
What if the issue isn’t just what you’re going through, but how you’re engaging with it?
And what does it actually look like to grow from adversity instead of just surviving it?
Candice explores the difference between suffering that shapes you and cycles that keep you stuck, including:
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Why does this keep happening to me?”
This conversation is for you.
