  • David Guetta Legacy Volume 2
David Guetta's output over the past 10 years cannot be underestimated. Taking a glance at some of the biggest urban, pop, DJ, rap, and R&B artists he's collaborated with is exhausting. Aside from pulling Chris Willis from obscurity, he favored Sia and Nicki Minaj. He's worked with these two ladies more than any others which generated some of his biggest tracks.

Now that David Guetta is making good use of his alias Jack Black and churning out some fantastic Tech House — it appears he's not about to lay down and go away quietly. He's gauging the musical landscape by keeping a pulse on musical trends and adapting as necessary. It's part of the man's genius and I fully expect more from him in the coming years.

Volume 2 of the David Guetta Dance  Legacy series covers a lot more territory than the first. Clocking in at just over 2 hours, this could very well be your poolside party for the Memorial Day weekend.

I'll be back next week with Gay Days 2019. Until then...ENJOY!

  • David Guetta Legacy Volume 1
Pierre David Guetta born 7 November 1967) is a French DJ, music programmer, record producer, and songwriter. He has sold over nine million albums and thirty million singles worldwide.[2] In 2011, Guetta was voted as the number one DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll.[3] In 2013, Billboard crowned "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland as the number-one dance-pop collaboration of all time.[4]

David Guetta had already been involved in the club scene since 1984 - 2000. However, it wasn't until he and partner Joachim Garraud collaborated with the American Gospel singer Chris Willis for a series of songs including their first single "Just a Little More Love." That collaboration spawned several more releases and the eventual compilation of F*ck Me I'm Famous. in 2003.

In 2004, their collaborations continued with the release of Guetta Blaster. After releasing four semi-successful singles it was a mashup of "Just a Little More Love" and the Tocadisco remix of The Egg's "Walking Away" titled "Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)" that blew up the global dance floors. The rest they say is history.

We all know the name David Guetta as one of the most successful DJs, producers, and songwriters of the early millennium. His superstar status skyrocketed with the massively successful "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland and later "Titanium" with Sia.

As the dance music world evolved, so did his style. He went from Electro-House to EDM and now Future House, Reggaeton, and whatever the current trend in dance music takes him. David Guetta is still in high demand and often releases tracks under his pseudonym Jack Black. He just had a number-one Billboard Dance Club hit with "Put Your Phone Down (Low)" not to mention the wildly successful "Wild Ones" with Nicky Romero and Sia.

You could say that David Guetta paved the way for other superstar DJs like Avicii, Calvin Harris, Marshmello, and The Chainsmokers by elevating these folks not just from being a DJ or dance party promoters but to multi-talented artists in their own right.

It's with great love and respect for the man and his music that Party Favorz recognizes the very talented David Guetta with an induction into our Legacy series. There are a lot of memories built into this set and I fully expect a lot of you to fall back on your heels when you hear a lot of these older tracks again. 10 years ago was not that far back but many of these songs are now considered classics.

Because his output is so extensive, I attempted to culminate some of his early work with the majority of his biggest hits, which ultimately span two sets. Expect volume 2 to drop tomorrow. Until then...ENJOY!

  • Calvin Harris The Dance Legacy Series
Calvin Harris (real name Adam Richard Wiles) is a multi-talented DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter from Scottland. He is part of a new generation of  DJs that have taken production and songwriting to a new level of superstardom.

In addition to writing, producing, and singing his own hits like "Feel So Close," "Summer," and "My Way" Calvin Harris has worked with some of the biggest and most respected recording artists of this generation including Rihanna ("We Found Love" and "This Is What You Came For"), Ne-Yo ("Let's Go"), Florence Welch ("Spectrum" and "Sweet Nothing"), Sam Smith ("Promises"), Ellie Goulding ("I Need Your Love" and "Outside"),  Halsey ("Alone"), Disciples ("How Deep Is Your Love") and Dua Lipa ("One Kiss") amongst many others.

Calvin Harris' talent cannot be underestimated as he has a unique ability to tap into the pop sensibilities of other artists' music while delivering club-friendly monsters. The man is a one-stop tour de force in the industry.

With a combination of multiple radio and club hits and a residency in Las Vegas, Calvin Harris has landed on Forbes' list of the highest-paid DJs from 2013 - 2018.

As Calvin Harris continues to experiment with everything from 80's dance, NuDisco, EDM, and House Music — his ability to adapt and reference the old and make it new again is what sets him apart from many of his contemporaries.

As one of Party Favorz's favorite here-and-now DJs — it's only appropriate that he be honored with our Legacy series (even if his career is just getting started). We look forward to hearing more of the magic that he brings to the world's dance floors in the coming years. ENJOY!

  • Maroon 5 The Dance Legacy Series
If ya'll haven't noticed the trend — I like to post sets in pairs that have some sort of relationship with each other.

In this case, it's the awesome pop-rock band Maroon 5 to the previous OneRepublic. Much like the latter, Maroon 5 consists of band members lead vocalist Adam Levine, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bassist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Farrar. Original members Levine, Carmichael, Madden, and drummer Ryan Dusick [source wikipedia].

In 2002, the group came out strong with the rock track "Harder To Breathe" but then moved quickly into my soft-rock MOR tracks like "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved" making it difficult to pigeonhole their sound.

Regardless, they proved to be adept at creating radio-friendly tracks that garnered a lot of attention. Their next album saw the release of "Makes Me Wonder" which shot to #1 on the pop charts but subsequent singles failed to chart well.

By the time their third album came out, the first two singles did not do so well either but it was the third single "Moves Like Jagger" that was remixed to include Christina Aguilera (a partner judge on the juggernaut "The Voice" talent show.) that caused the song to blow up at radio and went on to be the biggest song of the year.

By this point, Maroon 5 had finely tuned their pop craft and invited major Hip Hop artists to collaborate on subsequent singles with an eye toward the current culture while retaining their pop sensibilities.

One of the bigger contributions Maroon 5 has made is to the dance music community. So many of their songs translate so well to the dance floor — it was inevitable they'd be sampled, bootlegged in addition to the official remixes of their biggest hits. With this massive crossover appeal, and the eye-candy lead singer whose presence on a widely popular talent show Maroon 5 has managed to solidify their rightful place in popular music as well as dance floors across the globe.

Yes, Party Favorz unabashedly used the sexy pic from a photoshoot that Adam did for charity but honestly — Maroon 5 isn't just their frontman. It's all about the group and their enormous talent as musicians and masters of pop-rock music. Adam is just a bonus. If you've got it — use it to your advantage.

It's for all these reasons and more that Party Favorz honors Maroon 5 by acknowledging their contributions to dance music with our prestigious Legacy series. Enjoy!

  • OneRepublic The Dance Legacy Series
OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2002 consisting of lead vocalist Ryan Tedder, guitarist Zach Filkins, guitarist Drew Brown, bassist, and cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher. These guys rose to fame on the now-defunct MySpace social media site.

Once signed to Velvet Hammer (a boutique label of Columbia Records), they recorded their first album in 2005. Two months before the release of their debut album "Dreaming Out Loud," they were dropped by Columbia. Their first single "Apologize" was a big success on the MySpace music charts but didn't get much notoriety outside of the social media network.

It wasn't until famed producer Timbaland took notice of the group and signed them to his label Mosley Music Group. The original form of Apologize was released with little fanfare at radio but after Timbaland remixed the track and included it on his "Shock Value" album, the song skyrocketed to #1 internationally — including #1 for 8 weeks on Billboard's Pop 100 chart.

OneRepublic continued to have minor success on the pop charts but what allowed them to shine were the epic remixes of their tracks. Their songs translated well into the burgeoning EDM scene at the time and managed to deliver epic sing-along anthems in the vein of Coldplay and U2 (both groups who also have dancy retrospectives in the Legacy series).

Despite having only released 4 studio albums and selling over 10 million albums globally — OneRepublic has never garnered the kind of respect that their contemporaries like Coldplay have.  I liken them to The Alarm — the underdogs in the 80s and 90s that were often compared to U2 but never achieved the same global admiration despite an output of well-written anthemic songs. It's difficult for a band to be compared to another when they are their own entity with their own style.

If you trust Party Favorz to deliver only the finest and are a fan of strong, meaningful, EPIC anthems, then trust me when I say that this set will sweep you up in the urgency and emotion portrayed in these songs. Even if you're not familiar with many of the tracks — you will find yourself gleefully singing along.

Recently, OneRepublic has been working with a variety of stellar DJs/producers like Kygo, Seeb, and Galantis. This could be the start of an entirely new direction for them commercially. I certainly hope so.

This latest edition of the Legacy series will set off several more tributes this week and in the coming month. I hope ya'll like this as much as I did putting it together. It's been on repeat on my phone and in my car all week long.

    Until the next time...ENJOY!

  • Kim English 2019 | The Circuit Anthems

I'm sad to announce that one of the most prolific and talented divas Kim English has passed away at the very young age of 48. With a total of 13 top 10 Billboard Club/Dance tracks and 8 that reached #1 on the chart, the self-penned tracks spoke of her sincerely held religious convictions with themes of joy, empowerment, and personal relationships provided the soundtrack to many in the gay community. Hit's like "Unspeakable Joy," "Everyday," and 'Treat Me Right" live on in our memories of what real house music was all about.

After the release of her third album "My Destiny," Kim gave an interview where she admitted that it was difficult to reconcile her differences between her faith and the gay community. This statement alone had a significant impact on her career in which her label — the infamous Nervous Records — withdrew future support for her album.

I tend to look at this through the lens of what happens when our idols prove to be less than our preconceived notions and the pedestal we place them on. Michael Jackson and Donna Summer had similar issues during the latter part of their careers. I suggest we set aside the negative from the positive aspects of their music. Their impact on culture is so significant — we should separate their beliefs and actions from the timeline of memories they provided us. These 18 tracks stand as a testament to the power of Kim English's work and what it represented to us at the time of their peak popularity.

Most of these tracks clock in anywhere from 9 - 12 minutes. I went through the list and heavily edited them to maintain their energy without losing the integrity of the originals.

Since Kim English was multi-talented in Soulful House Music with a Jazz sensibility, I  plan on working out a second set featuring the same tracks that will have a different overall feel that is closer to her house music roots. I was never thrilled with her first induction into the Diva Hall of Fame, but this allows me to correct that wrong. In short, I worked this mother out!

It is with much love, admiration, and respect that Party Favorz re-inducts Kim English into the Diva Hall of Fame while simultaneously entering her into her rightfully earned place in our Legacy series.  ENJOY!

  • Selena Gomez 2019 | The Diva Series
As promised, I've got a couple of re-ups into the Diva Hall of Fame starting with the smart, beautiful, and uber-talented Selena Gomez.

Since Selena's first induction into the Diva Hall of Fame, she has had multiple massive collaborations (notably Kygo, Marshmello, and Charlie Puth) but has not released any new material. At the time, she was wrapping up a worldwide tour and had several production deals with the Lifetime Channel and Netflix. Ya'll may have heard of something called "13," which was a huge hit for the streaming service, even if it wasn't my cup of tea and frankly gave an appearance of glorifying suicide — but hey, that's just me.

Because Selena has kept her name shining bright and accumulated multiple hits during this period, Party Favorz thought it was only appropriate to update the original induction with alternate versions and their material. Frankly, I like the overall feel of this set compared to the first.

My guess (though I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time) is that she honors us with a new album in 2019 — at which point, I'll go back and update this set again once it has its full run.

In the interim, Party Favorz is thrilled to once again re-induct the fabulous Selena Gomez 2019 into the Diva Hall of Fame. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her in the future. ENJOY!

  • Hi-NRG Gay Anthems volume 4
We have reached the end of the Hi-NRG Gay Anthems series and all I have to say is WOW! Party Favorz has quite possibly the most extensive series of mixes dating back to the 70s till the present day of any podcast out there and I'm always surprised at how well various sets perform. This series has outperformed even my wildest expectations.

I've been hitting on these classics of varying genres and different time periods for quite some time, each new rollout is like a new discovery for many of you. I cannot recommend enough that if you're new to Party Favorz that you spend some time exploring what this site has to offer beyond just going chronologically through the posts. The site is fairly easy to navigate through the categories and sub-categories. There are over 800 podcasts in total that are still available on the site (not through the streaming services). I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at what's underneath the hood once you spend some time looking around.

That being said, volume 4 continues with the re-energized mixes from the 80s and 90s gay anthem Hi-NRG Classics. You'll notice I went with the Hannah Jones version of "I Am What I Am" as the Gloria Gaynor version felt dated. Jennifer Holliday's "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" re-sung the vocals for the Almighty mix but it still stands up quite well. There are three different versions by Almighty, but I went with the one that could easily be dropped in the middle of the set.

The fabulous Katherine Ellis, who has been MIA for a while is making a comeback relatively soon (yes, I've already got the promos), delivers a searing rendition of the Gwen Guthrie 80s classic "Ain't Nothin Going On but the Rent," turning it into an explosive dance floor stomper with 7th Heaven's signature all over it.

You'll also notice that the 1981 Lime NRG classic is a rare re-worked version that is one of the earliest Almighty mixes they ever laid down. It has the signature early 90's house sound that updated the original for that period. Frankly, I think it still holds together quite nicely. I want to thank Marshall for helping me track this down as the quality of the version I had was sub-par.

I also went with Sarah Washington's searing rendition of "I Will Always Love You," which was released well before Clive Davis commissioned Hex Hector to rework Whitney's massive hit several years after its original release. Sarah went on to have a massive hit with the Hex Hector produced "Heaven" by the end of the decade that's a staple in DJ circles to this day.

Finally, I close out the set with the early 80's re-work of the Ashford & Simpson penned tune "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," which was originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell but turned into a massive hit in the early 70s for Diana Ross' debut solo album. In this case, Inner Life did the honors featuring the uncredited vocals of Jocelyn Brown, who happens to be one of our Diva Hall of Fame entrants.

I want to thank Darren H. for his generous donation. Just please keep in mind, I need the money starting in April when the hosting comes up for renewal. I plan on going back to Siteground as they are hands-down the best provider I've ever worked with.

  • Hi-NRG Gay Anthems volume 3
Happy Monday or maybe not. If it's bitterly cold, snowing, or iced-over where you're at never fear as Party Favorz is here to put a little sunshine in your day with Hi-NRG Gay Anthems volume 3!

This set pulls from both decades with a few caveats. The late Viola Wills got started in the clubs in the early 80s with hits like "Gonna Get Along Without You Now" and "If You Could Read My Mind" (a remake of the Gordon Lightfoot #1 early 70s classic) is featured here with her rendition of the 1930's torch classic "Stormy Weather" turning it into a hi-energy floor stomper that pulled all the gay boys to the floor.

As for "If You Could Read My Mind," the dance version initially brought to life for the dance floor by Viola was re-worked by Amber, Jocelyn Enriquez, and Ultra Naté aka Stars On 54 and produced by Hex Hector for the movie Studio 54. I used the version by the fabulous Soraya Vivian who under the Fierce Angel imprint has created some fantastic classic remakes with her soaring vocals.

Nicki French took over for Bonnie Tyler with her rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which was a massive dance hit in the early 90s and given the Almighty treatment. Equally, Martha Wash re-sung "It's Raining Men" sans the late Izora Rhodes.

Frankly, there are a plethora of 80s dance classics in this set that should be instantly recognizable even to the average listener. However, one song that I have to mention is the feminist anthem "I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene, which was oddly written by two men (go figure). Charlene was the only white artist signed to Motown Records, and the song was initially released in 1977 and 1978 barely cracking the Top 100. It was re-released again in 1982 where it topped at #3 on the charts for several weeks and was the only hit Charlene had recorded but had a lasting impact.

The cheesy song gained popularity again when it was included in the 1994 movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" and has been a drag queen favorite ever since. Charlene re-sung the vocals but used the altered lyrical section of the song (I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that cost too much to be free) for the dance version.

The truth is, I could go on and on about the origins of various songs and the singers behind them, but my guess is you want to get to the music. In the end, it's all about the memories and lots of fun!

I'll be back on Wednesday to close out this series with volume 4. Until then...ENJOY!

Before I forget, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Anthony S. and Paul S. for their generous donations. The only thing I ask is not to let the well run dry before I decide to renew my host in April for another year. If I do, that's when I'm going to need the money. Nevertheless, this is going to help me dig up some rare treasures for the (as of now) planned significant Madonna celebration multi-series collection I have on tap for August. If I make it that far, this will be the most comprehensive and worthwhile series I've ever put out for any artist that will be cherished for decades to come. Full stop!
