I've got a diversionary mix for your guys. I had forgotten that Arista had released Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan; a very comprehensive discography earlier this month and realized that no one made a mega-mix of her best mixes. Granted, this is not the kind of music I put up on this blog, after all, trance is not my thing.

But, I am a HUGE fan of Sarah's and have always enjoyed the mixes that were created for her body of work. Looking around the net, I haven't seen anyone else do this. For that matter, I don't think I can recall ever seeing a Sarah McLachlan mega-mix. So, for the first time, here it is; a long time coming, but better late than never...ENJOY!

As promised, I'm sending part 2 of the Deep & Funky 2007 Top Dance Songs of the Year. This set is packed with several of my personal favorites including Booty Luv's "Boogie 2nite", Cahill's "Trippin On You" Degrees of Motion's updated "Do You Want It Right Now" Tony Moran & Martha Wash's "Keep Your Body Working" Nowak's Boogie Oogie Oogie inspired "Stand Up" Mika's "Love Today" Roisin Murphy's "Let Me Know" and Fish Go Deep's "The Cure and the Cause".

I just love all the songs. This was an unplanned trip back to when Party Favorz all began. A diversionary if you will, but an important part of our history. I promise to get summer 2017 officially kicked off tomorrow with Pool Party followed by the next EDM/Dance set and Summer Edition for the circuit boys the following week.

I've also got stealth and brand new inductions into the Diva Hall of Fame that will roll us into August, just in time for Madonna's annual birthday mix.

Until then...ENJOY!

In my last post, I asked if anyone had some older mixes that I long ago lost due to a hard drive crash. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Dean and Marshall for making it happen. The BPM Edition 2009 v5, which was originally 4 sets has been combined into two and is now available for the first time in years. Five sets of the BPM Edition 2009 v1 and the 2 sets of Funky Edition 2008 v1 and v2 have now been combined into one and are also available.

I had a problem with the Top Dance Songs of the Year 2007: Deep & Funky because in both cases they had split the tracks up and their track listing wasn't matching up with what was originally posted.

Along with 1999, 2007 is one of my all-time favorite years of house music. Folks like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, Soulseekers, 7th Heaven, Bassmonkeys, Wideboys, and DJ Meme were all on the cusp of becoming DJ and production superstars.

So, I went back and pulled ALL of the original tracks and reworked the entire 3 volume set, and combined it into two. I dropped a couple of songs for coherence, changed a couple of the original versions, and added a few more that were never included (but should have been). This is the same set, only better.

It's been remastered according to iTunes standards and frankly is mind-numbingly fantastic! So much so, I thought it would be a shame to not promote it front and center on the site. Hell, I even re-created the original artwork to go along with it, with some minor changes.

I've got part two going up tomorrow before officially kicking summer 2017 off with the long overdue Pool Party (which is complete and kicks some serious funky ass).

So let's go back 10 years from when Party Favorz officially launched on the web with the Deep & Funky Year-end edition and party like it's 2007. ENJOY!

It's that time of year again; and what a roller coaster year this has been; not just for me in my professional life or for Britney Spears, Amy, Paris, Nicole & Lindsey, the flailing housing market, rising gas prices, or even a sadistic administration that is the true access of evil; but more importantly club music. Every ten years or so, musical styles and tastes begin to evolve. Oftentimes pop music is nothing more than a reflection of decades past and a direct result of the social issues surrounding us at that time.

We've witnessed how alternative music has reached back to the eighties for the "garage band" sound and are now seeing low-tech electro-pop music come back into fashion as well. Erasure who never really changed their sound is now back in style; even if the masses didn't gravitate to their superior and much under-appreciated "Light At The End Of The World" album.

More importantly, we are witnessing the comeback of (dare I say it) DISCO! That word remains a bit of a stigma in the minds of people; so the politically correct thing is to call it FUNK. Fine, whatever tickles your pickle, but at the end of the day, it's still disco; just with a funkier edge. You don't need to look any further than the remixes by some of my current heroes Moto Blanco, Freemasons, Seamus Haji, and the Bassmonkeys to see the overwhelming acceptance on the dance floor, and I predict finally on radio in 2008.

We are also seeing the decline of this big room progressive sound in the way of Circuit music. While the deeper beats and darker sounds will always be around, much of it is transforming itself into heavy electro. You can thank Jody Den Broeder and his ilk for that. While not my favorite producer, he has had a stellar coming out year, remixing many of the number ones that resided on Billboard's dance chart. These changes often reflect the mood of the nation. Certainly being under attack and at war, living under the oppression of an arrogant regime has contributed heavily to the dark renderings of club music that had been so prevalent for the past several years. So much so, I almost gave it all up.

Fortunately, it's these very changes I've been witnessing that have renewed my sense of belief in what club music is and always should be; That is to say, that club songs are seemingly about nothing, "he said-she said", "you done me wrong, so get your ass out the door", "I'm so in love with you"...etc. Elvis Costello once said, "What's So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding?" Well, nothing really; and that is why that theme has been steadily appearing in club music as well.

For better or worse, the various genres of club music are here to stay, at least for now. We'll see another evolution take place in another ten years or so. One thing that will always be a constant is that clubbing is all about frivolous fun. It's an opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life. In the end, it's all good.

With that being said, I bring you the first of the Party Favorz 2007 Top Dance Songs of the Year. If you're one of those that's boogieing till the peak of dawn, then this one's for you! Download and burn this to CD for posterity's sake. Ten years from now, you'll be glad you did.
