Pride Month is here, but across America and the UK, LGBTQ Pride festivals are shrinking, scaling back, or disappearing altogether. This weekend, Long Beach Pride shocked attendees by cancelling its festival just 30 minutes before opening — triggering outrage, finger-pointing, bad reporting, and celebration from the far Right.
But beneath the headlines is a deeper truth nobody wants to discuss: many Pride organizations are struggling financially, politically, and organizationally. Corporate sponsors are vanishing, volunteer burnout is growing, and internal cliques and mismanagement are pushing communities apart at the exact moment unity matters most.
So is the current Pride model broken? And if it is… what replaces it?
