If you find yourself stuck in perfectionism, this episode is for you! Continuing my series this week, I'm talking about my favorite Japanese principle thus far: the principle of Wabi-sabi. This is the concept of beauty in imperfection and in the transient aspects of life.
In this episode, I start by breaking down the exact opposite of Wabi-sabi -- Perfectionism. This lie from your brain robs you of opportunities, holds you back, and is deeply connected to Imposter Syndrome.
Then we dive into Wabi-sabi itself, and how it can help you move past those destructive patterns of thinking, with three actions you can take:
1) Look for beauty in the imperfection of things you already hold dear
2) Be intentional about accepting imperfect qualities and quirks in the people you love
3) Appreciate and celebrate the value in your journey and in your scars
When you make Wabi-sabi a principle to work by, you will realize there is beauty you would never have experienced had you not gone through those imperfect moments and situations. You will learn to look for -- and eventually celebrate -- the value in ALL of the things you're going through.
