  • Candel Therapeutics reports Phase 2 trial shows extended survival in Pancreatic Cancer
Candel Therapeutics CEO Dr. Paul Peter Tak joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce positive final overall survival data from the company’s Phase 2 clinical trial of its investigational immunotherapy combined with an antiviral agent and standard-of-care (SoC) chemoradiation, followed by surgery, in patients with borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The updated results, reflecting an additional nine months of follow-up, demonstrated a durable survival advantage for patients receiving the combination therapy plus SoC compared to SoC alone.
Patients treated with the investigational immunotherapy (n=7) achieved an estimated median overall survival of 31.4 months after enrollment, significantly longer than the 12.5 months observed in the control group (n=6). Notably, long-term survivors in the immunotherapy group—alive at 66.0, 63.6, and 35.8 months post-enrollment—experienced disease recurrence but responded to salvage chemotherapy, leading to prolonged post-progression survival, further underscoring the therapy's sustained benefits.
Dr. Tak emphasized that pancreatic cancer remains one of the most challenging diseases to treat, as patients with borderline resectable PDAC often harbor undetectable metastases not cleared by current neoadjuvant chemoradiation and surgery. The investigational immunotherapy, designed to stimulate an in situ vaccine-like response against the patient’s tumor, shows potential to improve long-term outcomes and extend survival in this aggressive cancer setting.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has previously granted the therapy Fast Track and Orphan Drug Designations in combination with the antiviral agent for the treatment of PDAC, supporting its expedited development as a promising new treatment option for this devastating disease.

  • Northstar Gold reports Copper-Gold-Silver discovery at Miller Property, plans follow-Up exploration
Northstar Gold Corp CEO Brian Fowler Joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share partial results from the company’s seven-hole, 1,465-metre diamond drill program at the Miller Copper-Gold Property in Ontario. Conducted by Wiijiiwaagan Drilling Limited Partnership—a collaboration between Boart Longyear and the Matachewan First Nation—the program ran from November 23 to December 12.
Fowler explained that the drill program targeted near-surface copper-gold-silver volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization and associated electromagnetic (EM), induced polarization (IP), and magnetic geophysical anomalies. The focus was on a 1,000-metre southeast strike extension of the historic, high-grade Cam Copper Mine VMS horizon, known for direct-shipping ore.
The company is encouraged by initial results, which confirmed that all three holes intersected a stratiform, semi-massive to stringer pyrrhotite-dominated sulphide horizon containing anomalous gold and zinc concentrations over a 500-metre conductive strike length. Multiple intervals of semi-massive, gold-bearing sulphides were discovered in the footwall of a large rock unit, suggesting the presence of thicker, high-grade zones within the system.
Looking ahead, Northstar plans to prioritize follow-up exploration along this newly identified gold horizon. The 2025 exploration program will include surface prospecting, 3D IP surveys, potential borehole IP surveying, and mobile metal ion soil geochemistry sampling. These initiatives aim to refine drill targets and identify thicker sulphide sections for future testing, advancing the Miller Property’s potential as a source of copper, gold, and silver mineralization.
