  • Arafura Rare Earths CEO on Nolans Rare Earths Project and meeting the supply deficit
Arafura Rare Earths CEO Darryl Cuzzubbo talked with Proactive about the company's construction-ready Nolans rare earths project. Arafura plans to produce Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr) oxide, a key material for electric vehicles and wind turbines. Cuzzubbo emphasised that the company is well-positioned as it bypasses the China supply chain by processing 95% towards the final metal.
Cuzzubbo noted that demand for these critical rare earths is expected to double in the next decade, driven by EVs, wind turbines, and robotics. He highlighted that Arafura has secured binding offtake agreements with Hyundai, Kia, and Siemens Gamesa. The company is in the final stages of securing equity funding, with the Australian government’s National Reconstruction Fund Corporation committing 200 million Australian dollars to support the project.
Arafura expects to start construction later this year, with a three-year build time followed by a two-year ramp-up. Once operational, the Nolans project could supply approximately 4% of global demand.

  • Fincraft Group's Kenges Rakishev on energy transition & investment in Kazakhstan
Immunic Inc CEO Dr Daniel Vitt talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the upcoming Phase 2 readout of the CALLIPER trial for vidofludimus calcium in progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). The trial, which includes 467 patients globally, is evaluating the drug’s potential to slow disease progression and provide a much-needed treatment option for progressive MS patients.
Vitt confirmed that the trial remains on schedule, with data expected in April. The study aims to assess the drug’s impact on disease progression, brain volume changes, and key biomarkers such as Neurofilament light chain (NfL). The company is particularly focused on addressing the high unmet medical need in non-active secondary progressive MS, a condition with no currently approved treatments.
Early biomarker results from the study have been promising. Vitt highlighted that all patient groups experienced around a 20% reduction in NfL levels, a biomarker linked to disease progression. "A lowering of NfL to that extent is likely to be correlated to a decreased risk of disability worsening," he stated, underscoring the potential significance of the upcoming readout.
Looking ahead, Immunic is preparing for discussions with regulators and planning a Phase 3 trial. Vitt noted that only one Phase 3 study would be required for approval, and positive CALLIPER results could attract interest from major players in the MS treatment space.

  • Lithium Universe signs MoU with Lafarge in Canada
Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX:LU7, OTC:LUVSF) CEO Alex Hanly spoke with Proactive’s Tylah Tully about the company’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lafarge Canada and its strategic focus on Aluminosilicate Secondary Product (ACSR).
Lafarge, a subsidiary of global cement and concrete leader Holcim, is one of Canada’s largest concrete producers.
The partnership centres on ACSR, a byproduct produced during Lithium Universe’s lithium carbonate refinery process.
This process generates ACSR in a 1:1 ratio to spodumene, alongside sodium sulphide.
Hanly explained, “Rather than incurring high disposal costs, we see a valuable opportunity to integrate ASCR into the cement and concrete industry.”
Following Lithium Universe’s PFS announcement last year, Lafarge expressed interest in exploring its potential applications in construction.
The next step involves procuring an ASCR sample that closely resembles what the company expects to produce at its Bécancour refinery.
This material will undergo rigorous quality and strength testing in collaboration with Lafarge, industry labs and Montreal-based universities to ensure it meets construction standards.
Hanly emphasised that ASCR was a key focus for Lithium Universe, aligning with its broader strategy to enhance lithium refining efficiency, reduce waste and create new revenue streams by supplying sustainable materials to the construction sector.

  • Firebird Metals signs manganese MoU with Eramet
Firebird Metals Ltd managing director Peter Allen spoke with Proactive’s Tylah Tully about the company’s latest milestone, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eramet and how this advances Firebird’s long-term manganese strategy.
Eramet is a French multinational metals and mining company involved in nickel, lithium and manganese production.
The MoU specifically relates to Eramet’s manganese mining operations in Gabon, which have been in production for 50 years and are expected to continue for at least another 20 years. Manganese from Gabon would be supplied to Firebird’s proposed manganese processing operations in China.
“Our annual demand is very small in comparison, so it makes them a strong and stable partner for us,” Allen said.
The goal of the MoU is to accelerate Firebird’s sulphide plant development, enabling early production and securing a reliable supply of manganese feedstock.
The agreement is expected to transition into a formal offtake agreement once Firebird moves past its final investment decision (FID) and enters the construction phase.
Looking ahead, Firebird has a busy 2025 planned, with a focus on advancing its sulphide plant project, progressing the Oakover manganese project and expanding its technical division, including innovations like calcining kiln technology, which has applications in multiple commodities.

  • Hive Digital Technologies reports January BTC production, expands capacity with Paraguay acquisition
Hive Digital Technologies Chief Financial Officer Darcy Daubaras joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share the company’s unaudited production results for January 2025.
HIVE mined 102 BTC, bringing its HODL portfolio to 2,657 BTC, valued at $271 million as of January 31, 2025, based on a Bitcoin price of approximately $102,000. The company’s BTC holdings grew 34% year-over-year, though month-over-month holdings declined due to strategic BTC sales to fund capital investments, including the acquisition of Bitfarms’ 200 MW hydro-powered Bitcoin mining assets in Paraguay.
Daubaras highlighted that HIVE maintained an average mining capacity of 5.7 Exahash per Second (EH/s), with fleet efficiency at 22 Joules per Terahash (J/TH). The company achieved a peak BTC-only hashrate of 6 EH/s and a peak BTC-equivalent hashrate of 6.4 EH/s, producing an average of 3.3 BTC per day or 18 BTC per Exahash.
A key development in January was HIVE’s acquisition of a 200 MW hydro-powered mining facility in Paraguay from Bitfarms Ltd. The acquisition is expected to significantly boost HIVE’s global Bitcoin mining hashrate to an anticipated 25 EH/s by September 2025, marking a 317% increase from the current 6 EH/s. HIVE estimates a total net cost of $400,000 per MW to complete the Bitfarms site, which, alongside existing operations in Canada and Sweden, will increase the company’s total operational capacity to approximately 430 MW by Q3 2025.
