  • Sona Nanotech advances gold nanoparticle hyperthermia technology for cancer treatment
Sona Nanotech Inc (CSE:SONA, OTCQB:SNANF) chief medical officer Dr Carman Giacomantonio joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's innovative targeted hyperthermia technology for cancer treatment. This cutting-edge approach utilizes gold nanoparticles activated by near-infrared light to heat tumor tissue to a controlled temperature range of 42–48°C, selectively stressing cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.
Dr. Giacomantonio explained that this method has the potential to trigger immune system activation, effectively converting "cold tumors" (which do not naturally provoke immune responses) into "hot tumors" that do. Sona Nanotech has already demonstrated this effect in colon cancer and is now expanding its research into brain cancer.
The company's findings were recently published in Frontiers in Immunology, a respected peer-reviewed journal, further validating its approach. Dr. Giacomantonio emphasized that this scientific recognition not only strengthens the credibility of Sona’s technology but also opens doors for potential industry collaborations.
Looking ahead, Sona Nanotech is preparing to launch a clinical trial to assess the feasibility and safety of this approach in humans. The ultimate goal is to develop a practical, minimally invasive cancer treatment that eliminates the need for complex surgical procedures.

  • C3 Metals reports strong results from field work at Super Block project in Jamaica
C3 Metals CEO Dan Symons joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce significant gold results from soil and channel sampling at the company’s 50%-owned Super Block project in Jamaica.
C3 Metals operates the project under a 50/50 joint venture with Geophysx Jamaica.
Symons explained that the Super Block project spans 9,870 hectares, located west of C3 Metals’ Arthurs Seat and Bellas Gate projects. The project is strategically positioned near Barrick Gold’s mineral concessions, where Barrick holds the right to earn an 80% joint-venture interest with Geophysx.
Recent closely spaced soil and channel sampling at Super Block has confirmed strong gold geochemistry along a trend comparable in intensity to the former Pennants Gold Mine, which historically produced 16,000 ounces of gold between 2002 and 2004. Geochemical sampling identified highly anomalous gold over a +5km strike northwest and southeast of the Pennants Gold Mine, where historical resources were reported at 20.4 g/t gold.
C3 Metals has designed an initial 2,500-metre diamond drilling program comprising 14 holes to test the gold and coincident radiometric anomalies. The company is in the process of applying for drill permits for the remaining areas of the PEZ prospect and Pennants regions and plans to conduct additional surface exploration through soil and channel sampling to the east and north of the PEZ prospect.

  • ANGLE says novel research highlights importance of Parsortix in cancer progression
ANGLE PLC (AIM:AGL, OTCQX:ANPCY) chief executive Andrew Newland talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about groundbreaking new research using its Parsortix system. The study, conducted by the Marchetti lab at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center, uncovered key insights into how cancer spreads.
Newland explained that Parsortix, the only FDA-cleared system for recovering cancer cells for analysis, was used to study circulating tumor cell (CTC) clusters. The research found that B cells influence the movement of cancer clusters, accelerating metastasis. These findings open new avenues for understanding and potentially preventing cancer spread.
The study also suggests that detecting B cell CTC clusters in melanoma patients could help identify those at risk of disease progression. Pharmaceutical companies may explore ways to target these mechanisms to slow or stop metastasis.
Additionally, Newland highlighted a collaboration with Illumina, with ANGLE set to present at an Illumina webinar. This event could drive further adoption of Parsortix for advanced cancer research.

  • Faron Pharmaceuticals raises €12M in pivotal year for BEXMAB trials
Faron Pharmaceuticals Limited (AIM:FARN) CEO Dr Juho Jalkanen talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's €12 million fundraising through an oversubscribed share placing. Originally set at €10 million, strong investor confidence in Faron’s programs, particularly in bexmarilimab, led to an increase in the raise.
Jalkanen emphasised that this funding comes at a pivotal time for the company. He highlighted the completion of patient enrollment in the Phase II BEXMAB trial for relapsed refractory myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a form of leukemia with a poor prognosis. The Phase II readout, expected in April, will be a major milestone, with early data showing an increase in survival from 5-6 months to 13.4 months and an 80% response rate.
Beyond the readout, Jalkanen outlined key 2025 milestones, including presentations at major medical conferences, discussions with the FDA, and further business developments. He stated, “We are well funded beyond this, and we are geared for success.”

  • atai Life Sciences reports new BPL-003 trial shows promise for AUD
atai Life Sciences (NASDAQ:ATAI, ETR:9VC) CEO and co-founder Dr Srinivas Rao talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the promising results in strategic investee Beckley Psytech’s Phase 2a study of BPL-003 for alcohol use disorder.
Rao highlighted the significant unmet need in treating alcohol use disorder (AUD), which affects approximately 400 million people globally and contributes to 3 million deaths per year. The Phase 2a trial, though small with 12 participants, yielded promising results. Patients received a single dose of BPL-003 alongside cognitive behavioral therapy, leading to a 50% abstinence rate over three months. Additionally, heavy drinking days were reduced from 56% to 13%, while abstinent days increased from 33% to 81%.
Looking ahead, atai Life Sciences is anticipating data from a larger Phase 2b study. Rao explained that BPL-003, a 5-MeO-DMT benzoate nasal spray, is being evaluated for its potential to provide long-lasting therapeutic effects with a single administration. This approach contrasts with existing treatments like Esketamine, which require frequent dosing.
Rao emphasized that shorter-duration psychedelic treatments could ease the burden on patients and healthcare providers. By reducing the need for frequent visits, these therapies could make mental health treatment more accessible and scalable.
