  • Atlantic Lithium hits significant milestone with mine operating permit for Ewoyaa project
Atlantic Lithium Ltd (AIM:ALL, OTCQX:ALLIF, ASX:A11) executive chairman Neil Herbert talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest milestone: receiving a mine operating permit for the Ewoyaa Lithium Project in Ghana. This is part of the company's broader permitting efforts, following the environmental permit obtained last month.
Herbert said completing all permitting stages will allow Atlantic Lithium to set a date for breaking ground in 2024. The Ewoyaa project is expected to begin production by the end of 2026 and reach full production by 2027, making it Ghana’s first lithium mine. Herbert described the project as having a strong cost profile, even in challenging lithium markets.
Herbert highlighted current M&A activity, noting Rio Tinto's proposed acquisition of US-listed Arcadium Lithium, saying the sector is ripe for consolidation, but emphasised Atlantic Lithium's focus on taking the Ewoyaa project into production.

  • Just the Facts: Eclipse Metals confirms REE mineralisation in Greenland
Proactive’s Tylah Tully breaks down Just the Facts of the latest news from Eclipse Metals Ltd (ASX:EPM).
Eclipse has confirmed extensive rare earth element mineralisation at the Grønnedal prospect within its Ivigtût Project in Greenland.
The company utilised HyperXRF technology to assess historical drill core, identifying mineralisation that extends to a depth of at least 50 metres.
This data has led to a conceptual exploration target ranging from 175 to 245 million tonnes of REE mineralisation.
The company also observed high neodymium concentrations in core from six historical diamond drill holes, with consistently high neodymium ratios from surface to at least 200 metres of depth.
These findings indicate a significant rare earth deposit, featuring elevated levels of medium rare earth elements.
In addition, Eclipse has pinpointed seven conductive targets for further exploration, based on a previous airborne electromagnetic survey.
It estimates that the mineralisation could extend as deep as 500 metres or more.
The next phase of the project involves conducting spot chemical analysis to further refine and validate the XRF results, aiming to accurately measure the resource's potential.

  • FPX Nickel Produces Battery-Grade Nickel Sulphate at Baptiste Nickel Project
FPX Nickel CEO Martin Turenne joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share significant advancements in the company’s Baptiste Nickel Project during an interview with Proactive. FPX has successfully completed pilot-scale hydrometallurgy refinery testwork, producing battery-grade nickel sulphate—a critical material for the EV battery market.
Turenne noted that this milestone follows the successful 2023 bench-scale hydrometallurgy refining testwork and marks a major step forward in demonstrating the refining process of Baptiste’s awaruite concentrate. The pilot plant work was partially funded by Natural Resources Canada under the government’s Critical Minerals Research, Development and Demonstration program, aimed at advancing Canada's EV battery material supply chain.
Turenne emphasized that if the Baptiste project progresses as expected, it could lead to a 50% increase in Canada’s annual nickel production, without impacting the country’s current nickel smelting or refinery capacity. This breakthrough represents a low-cost, low-carbon solution for linking mining to EV battery production.
The results from the pilot plant are being incorporated into FPX’s Awaruite Refinery Scoping Study, which will provide detailed evaluations of capital and operating costs. The study is on track for completion in Q1 2025, offering valuable insights into the commercial potential of the awaruite refinery.
