  • First Phosphate applauding Quebec Government for adding Phosphate the critical minerals list
First Phosphate Corp CEO John Passalacqua joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share important news regarding Quebec's commitment to the development of critical and strategic minerals. The Quebec Minister of Natural Resources and Forests unveiled the 2023-2025 Action Plan for the implementation of the Quebec Plan for the Development of Critical and Strategic Minerals 2020-2025.
Passalacqua revealed to Proactive that this update to the Quebec list of critical and strategic minerals will now include apatite, specifically phosphate. Quebec now joins the ranks of jurisdictions such as Ontario, the European Union, and South Korea, which all recognize phosphate as a critical and strategic mineral.
Importantly, Passalacqua emphasized that a decision by the Governments of Canada and the United States on the status of phosphate as a critical and strategic mineral is anticipated in 2024 or beyond. Current data from Argus Phosphate Rock Analytics indicates that North American phosphate production is slated to decline by 61% by 2037.
First Phosphate Corp's objective is to establish an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery valley in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region of Quebec. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for LFP battery cathode active materials across North America, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of critical minerals within the region.
This recognition and commitment from Quebec represent a significant step toward securing a domestic and strategic supply chain for critical minerals, which are vital components in various industries, including the rapidly growing battery sector. It highlights the potential for Quebec to play a pivotal role in meeting the future demand for these essential resources.

  • HANetf's head of research shares 2024 trends, highlighting equal-weighting, defence and uranium
HANetf head of research Tom Bailey joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with insights into the ETF market for 2024, following a remarkable performance in 2023.
Bailey emphasized the dominance of a few major companies, dubbed "The Magnificent Seven" (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta/Facebook, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla), which significantly influenced the major indices' performance in 2023. This concentration in market cap-weighted indices has led to a shift in investor interest towards equal-weighted ETFs to mitigate concentration risk.
Highlighting the geopolitical tensions and their impact on the market, Bailey introduced the 'Future of Defence UCITS ETF' (ticker: NATO), focusing on conventional and cyber defence companies from NATO or NATO Plus member countries. This product aligns with the growing need for responsible investment in geopolitically sensitive sectors.
Furthermore, Bailey discussed the rising interest in uranium due to energy security concerns and the shift towards low-carbon energy sources. He mentioned the 'Sprott Uranium Miners UCITS ETF' (ticker: URNM), which offers exposure to uranium miners benefiting from the increasing demand for nuclear energy.
Overall, Bailey's insights suggest a 2024 ETF market characterized by a move towards equal weighting, a focus on sectors influenced by geopolitical tensions, and a growing interest in sustainable energy sources like nuclear power. These trends underline the evolving nature of ETF investments and the importance of diversification and responsible investing in today's market.

  • Aclara Resources says Carina Module PEA reveals robust economics
Aclara Resources CEO and Director Ramón Barúa joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion to share the results of a preliminary economic analysis (PEA) conducted on its the Carina Module ionic clay rare earths project in Brazil.
Barúa revealed the project's robust economics, highlighting its $1.2 billion net present value and impressive 29% IRR over a 17-year production span. The project's capital repayment time is notably short at 3.6 years, despite a substantial investment of $582 million. Emphasizing Carina's global significance, Barúa noted that its production in 2023 would constitute 13.7% of China's official output, a leading market in this sector.
Beyond financial metrics, Aclara's commitment to environmental sustainability was a key discussion point. The company's patented extraction method eliminates the use of explosives and reduces CO2 emissions by avoiding crushing and milling processes. This eco-friendly approach aligns with circular economy principles, featuring complete recycling of water and plant reagents.
Barúa also highlighted the importance of dysprosium, a rare earth element critical in the energy transition, particularly in electric vehicles. He pointed out the projected surge in dysprosium demand, with estimates indicating a need for 8,000 tonnes by 2033, a significant increase from the current supply of 3,000 tonnes.
Regarding the project's timeline, Barúa explained the gap between the operational pilot plant and the projected commissioning in 2029, attributing it to the lengthy permitting process in Brazil. He remains optimistic, citing enthusiastic support from local government officials and precedent set by other regional producers. The interview concluded with Barúa indicating ongoing drilling efforts to expand Carina's resource base, with updates expected in the coming months.

  • Genflow Biosciences says new research grants validate its research into age-related conditions
Genflow Biosciences CEO Dr Eric Leire joins Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of two significant research grants in Belgium.
The grants, aimed at fostering collaborations in advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), notably support partnerships with EXO Biologics for exosome manufacturing and Revatis SA focusing on sarcopenia research.
Sarcopenia, an age-related muscle loss condition, is a key area of Genflow's research. Dr Leire emphasized the importance of maintaining muscle mass for longevity and overall health. The Belgian government's non-dilutive funding covers 80% of the project costs, providing substantial financial support for Genflow. This funding setup is particularly beneficial as it offers more cash flow, shareholder value protection, and serves as a stamp of approval for the scientific rigour of Genflow's research.
These collaborations are part of a three-year plan to build a robust biotech ecosystem in Belgium, involving academic centers and various biotech actors. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance Genflow’s research capabilities and increase its company valuation through the achievement of meaningful milestones.
Beyond these partnerships, Genflow is actively seeking further collaborations to expand its pipeline, focusing on gene therapy and age-related diseases. This strategy aims to reduce both financial and scientific risks in the current challenging biotech market, ensuring a diversified and robust research portfolio for the company.

  • Argentina Lithium shares latest positive drill result from Rincon West Project
Argentina Lithium Vice President of Exploration Miles Rideout joined Steve Darling from Proactive to reveal the results from the 10th and 11th exploration holes at the Rincon West Project in Salta Province, Argentina.
Rideout explained that samples were collected over a significant 295.5-meter section, yielding lithium concentrations ranging from 245 to 366 mg/l lithium. Additionally, samples taken from a 321-meter section exhibited lithium concentrations ranging from 246 to 344 mg/l lithium.
The tenth exploration hole was strategically located to assess the continuity of the brine aquifer, with drilling extending eastward into the primary salar basin. The second hole, situated 2.7 kilometers to the southeast, aimed to investigate the salt flat in the southern and eastern regions of the primary block within the Rincon West project. These drill holes represent the initial two holes in the planned 6-hole program for the Rinconcita II property.
These promising results underscore the potential for valuable lithium resources at the Rincon West Project and emphasize the company's commitment to advancing its exploration efforts. As Argentina Lithium continues its program and expands its understanding of the resource potential in the region, investors and industry observers can anticipate further developments in this exciting project.
