  • Bitcoin experiences turbulent trading session following SEC hack | Crypto Report
In a dramatic turn of events, Bitcoin (BTC) faced significant volatility in its recent trading session.
Triggered by a security breach at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the cryptocurrency saw a tumultuous day. Initially, Bitcoin's value dipped below $45,000 before recovering during European trading hours. However, the resurgence was short-lived as it fell again with the opening of US markets.
The volatility was fueled by a hacking incident on the SEC's Twitter account. The hacker falsely claimed the approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), a development eagerly anticipated by major financial institutions like BlackRock Inc, VanEck, and Grayscale. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler quickly addressed the false information on his personal Twitter account.
Despite the chaos, Ethereum (ETH) gained on Bitcoin, demonstrating resilience and growth amidst the turmoil. In contrast, the wider altcoin market, including Solana (SOL), BNB, Ripple (XRP), Cardano (ADA), and Dogecoin (DOGE), faced minor setbacks. Avalanche (AVAX) notably experienced a significant decline.

Eden Research PLC (AIM:EDEN, OTCQB:EDNSF) CEO Sean Smith speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the sustainable biopesticide company announced it has received regulatory approval in California for Mevalone, its biofungicide targeting botrytis in grapes.
Smith explains that the state-level approval follows a previous national authorisation from the EPA, before going on to highlight California's importance as the largest wine producer in the U.S. Eden's commercial partner for Mevalone in the US, Sipcam Agro, will be responsible for marketing and distributing Mevalone.

  • Cornerstone FS roars into the new year after "incredible 2023"
Cornerstone FS PLC (AIM:CSFS) chief executive James Hickman speaks to Thomas Warner from Proactive London after the foreign exchange and payments solutions company published a full-year trading update that revealed a year-on-year doubling of revenues a hefty increase in gross margins.
Hickman attributes this success to the dedicated efforts and strategic planning executed in 2022 and early 2023, and highlights the importance of the expansion of their sales team and a shift in strategy towards direct market approaches. This move involved offboarding their white-label back book, which Hickman credits for noticeable improvements in margins and immediate revenue growth. Despite this shift, the company maintains a strong focus on cost control, avoiding extensive marketing campaigns.
Looking ahead, Cornerstone FS plans to continue its growth without major marketing initiatives. Instead, the company relies on partnerships and affiliates, including accountants, solicitors, and property agents, for customer acquisition. To accommodate customer demands, they are expanding their presence with regulatory approval submissions in the UAE, Dubai, and Canada, and are launching new products and services. This includes expanding currency corridors to better serve customer needs.
Hickman concludes by reassuring investors of Cornerstone FS's significant transformation and strides made in 2023. With ambitious and focused strategies, the company anticipates substantial dividends in the next two to three years, marking a promising future for both existing and potential investors.

  • FTSE 100 falls, festive food sales looking punchy — Market Report
Good morning from London, where the FTSE 100 is down so far – dragged down by a near 5% fall in Sainsbury’s share price.
A trading statement from them this morning revealed that food sales remained strong in the fourth quarter of 2023 but general merchandise and clothing sales fell back, though they are maintaining full-year profit guidance of between £670-£700 million.
Richard Hunter at Interactive Investor says strong food sales are not “being mirrored in other parts of the group… adding that consumers have become increasingly selective in non-essential items which, coupled with other competitors specifically concentrated in this space, has left Sainsbury trailing.”
That resilience in food spending very much in evidence over at high street bakery chain Greggs, whose shares are up nearly 10% this morning. An update from them this morning reveals that cash generation is well ahead of expectations with net cash of £195m at year-end vs a £130m expectation from analysts. Seasonal lines, including the Festive Bake, Chocolate Orange Muffin and Christmas Lunch Baguette performed well as did pizza, which is a key component of the company’s push to sell more products during the traditionally quieter evening segment of the day.
Overall though the markets still getting back up to speed, with the next big bit of news expected to be fresh inflation figures from the US tomorrow afternoon UK.

  • Nevada Lithium announces seismic survey identifies brine target for drilling
Nevada Lithium CEO Stephen Rentschler joined Steve Darling from Proactive to to provide an exciting update on the company's latest developments. Nevada Lithium has successfully completed its interpretation of a seismic survey conducted at the Bonnie Claire lithium project, shedding light on significant potential in the lithium sector.
The seismic survey, a pivotal aspect of their exploration strategy, was meticulously carried out to pinpoint an extension of a lithium brine-bearing fault zone. Rentschler was enthusiastic as he shared that the results have unveiled a major north-south-trending fault zone, which has emerged as a prime target for further exploration in the pursuit of lithium brine resources.
This discovery represents a crucial step in Nevada Lithium's overarching workplan, designed to propel the company's lithium resource toward pre-feasibility and to explore additional avenues within the lithium brine market. As part of this strategic plan, Nevada Lithium has already pinpointed an initial drilling location for brine evaluation. Preliminary work is now underway to ascertain the optimal timing for conducting these essential drill tests.
It's worth noting that while the seismic survey covered less than 8% of the entire Bonnie Claire lithium project, the company's vision extends beyond this initial exploration area. Substantial sections to the south and north of the property remain untouched by seismic testing, offering tantalizing prospects along the strike from the interpreted fault zone.
In essence, Nevada Lithium's seismic survey has not only highlighted the promising potential within the Bonnie Claire lithium project but also paved the way for future endeavors in the pursuit of lithium brine resources. With the identification of this significant fault zone and a well-defined strategy in place, the company is poised for an exciting journey towards further advancements in the lithium industry.
