Good morning from London where the FTSE 100 is up so far, on a day replete with earning announcements.
Among them was British Gas owner Centrica, which is reporting a tenfold increase in net cash alongside a 55% jump in adjusted profit as energy crisis costs were recovered through higher bills.
Fellow energy firm Shell failed to grip investors with a new US$5.5bn buyback scheme and a complementary dividend hike though, as shares receded on lower second-quarter profits.
Barclays also fell early on, as the bank’s increasing quarterly pre-tax profits were overshadowed by mounting bad debt provisions.
Shares in Drax Group slipped too, as the energy generator saw pre-tax earnings jump at the half-year stage alongside a rise in net debt.
Investors were more positive over at BT meanwhile, with the shares opening higher as the telco giant reiterated full-year guidance after a modest 4% rise in quarterly revenue.
Away from earnings, Ocado shares were struck down by news that Luke Jensen, chief executive of the group’s tech wing, will be retiring at the end of September.
And finally in small caps, AIM-listed Wizz Air has received an enforcement order from airline regulator the CAA after slow refunds for cancellations and flight delays sparked a raft of complaints.
