Project Freelance

This week on the Project Freelance podcast I am chatting with freelance welder and part time stage manager, Jonny Emerick of Emerick's Ironworks. He is based out of Long Beach, California and I met him while photographing bands on Vans Warped Tour.

He's created some custom pieces for Manson, a real life Fortnite Battle Bus for an Epic Games event, and even made a ufo for a photoshoot. Enjoy this week's episode and you should definitely follow Jonny's journey by visiting his links below. Also, leave him a nice YELP review!

This week on Project Freelance I'm chatting with singer, screamer, vocal coach, and YouTuber Lauren Babic. Lauren will be sharing some crazy tour stories that ladies can probably relate to. We also chat about the logistics of what it takes to get her band Red Handed Denial on US tours, as a Canadian band as well as what it would take to get her other band, Crazy 88, whose members are based around the world, on a tour. We also get discuss what Lauren's journey on Youtube has been like. She recently passed 100K subscribers and I wanted to know what it took to get there and what she's doing to sustain it now.

This week on the Project Freelance podcast I am so stoked to talk to DJ Kode Break, who is Futuristic's hypeman and DJ on tour. I met him at Warped Tour in 2017 and I think I even rode on his bus one night. I wanted to pick his brain about his beat making process, life on the road, and his career goals. This was such a cool podcast.

Season 5, Ep 11

This week on Project Freelance I am joined by composer Greg M. Johnson. He has composed music for many sci-fi films, tv shows, and even a few video games. I wanted to pick his brain about the process of composing music for entertainment. How can you watch a film, with only the dialogue and come up with music to match those scenes? I mean, downloading some song from an audio library is one thing, but composing your own music!! WOW! I'm a vocalist but I've never been able to clearly articulate the music that's in my head, which is why I hire instrumentalists to help me. This episode is very special as it includes some of the music Greg is allowed to share that he has composed.

Project Freelance - Season 5, Ep. 10

This week on the Project Freelance podcast I am with 17 year old freelance artist, illustrator, and cartoonist, Arimatronic. She started out as a doodler in school, but didn't find her passion for art until she got to her sophomore year of high school. She quickly learned a valuable lesson about learning how to draw in the style of realism to help develop her artistic skills.

Armed with an Ipad pro and a pencil she began creating pieces for commission after someone told her that she would buy one of her pieces. She began with digital outlines and graduated to fully detailed posters, merchandise designs, stickers, and even did fan art for the Netflix show Disenchantment.

By creating a presence on social media she has continued to grow as a young freelancer and is currently working on a book. You can follow her journey online by checking the links below.

Project Freelance - Season 5, Ep. 9

I've been on Youtube for a decade and in that time I think I've become a pretty decent host and I wanted to share five tips for hosting videos of your own or for corresponding for an outlet.

1. Follow your passion and come up with video ideas around that.

2. Research your topics before you start filming.

3. Come up with a rough script to follow. It will help you stay on track and keep your thoughts organised.

4. Deliver your monologue clips or "vlog clips" in an optimal location that fits the story of the overall video, use the best lighting possible and consider investing in pro audio.

5. The more you practice hosting your own videos the better you will be as a correspondent.

Project Freelance - Season 5, Ep. 7

This week on the Project Freelance podcast I am joined by my friends Tyler and Fredo from a live music YouTube channel called CaliberTV. These guys had such a passion for live music that they began capturing local shows and sharing them online for the world to see. As they gained traction throughout the years it led them to opportunities to work for the Vans Warped Tour and film hundreds of bands around the United States. These guys might just be the next big thing for live music content.
