This week on Propagate, Josh and special guest, Pastor Mike Augsburger, break down the sermon study distributed to growth group leaders at Soteria Church on April 28, 2024. The sermon study on Nehemiah 6:15–7:73 is as follows:
How have you experienced someone’s generosity before?
What did they sacrifice in order to be generous? After completing the building of the wall around Jerusalem, the credits rolled. In Nehemiah 7, Nehemiah lists all of the families that were in Jerusalem. And toward the end, he mentioned that there were a few leaders and families who gave a significant amount of money toward the wall project. On top of that, the rest of the people gave from what they had to give. Everyone in the city contributed to the project.
Why did they give? Because of a common mission.
In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul addresses a New Testament church. Paul asked the church in Corinth (among others) to give relief money to the Jerusalem church. He tells them why they should give, what motivations they should have to give. Read 2 Corinthians 9:6–15 and answer the following questions:
How could verse six be incorrectly interpreted? What does it actually mean?
Why does God love a cheerful giver? What makes a giver cheerful?
According to verses eight to ten, God enables his people for good works. How does God enable people to be generous?
According to verses eleven to fifteen, how do the recipients of the gift respond to God? to the giver?
