However, your hosts, Josh and Pastor Zach, clear up some of the confusion in this week's episode of Propagate. And these doctrines also have ramifications for your growth group! Listen and learn and lead accordingly.

    9. Sermon Study Breakdown (Neh. 5:1-13)

This week, Pastor Zach and Josh break down the sermon study distributed to growth group leaders at Soteria Church on February 25, 2024. The sermon study on Nehemiah 5:1-13 is as follows:

      REFLECT

      1. Just for fun, what did you do to receive your most expensive traffic violation?
      2. Why is confession of sin so difficult?
      3. ENCOUNTER

In Nehemiah 5, sin comes to light. In order to build a good wall, you have to dig into the ground to lay the foundation for it. When you dig down to lay the foundation, you might unearth something that has long been buried and hidden away.

Spiritually speaking, this is what Nehemiah does in Jerusalem. As he is getting ready to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, certain sins of the people are unearthed. And these sins needed to be dealt with before the building project could get underway. The people had to confess their sin in order for the community to move forward in faith.

In Acts 19, we see another situation where sin is confessed. In this passage, Paul goes to Ephesus. During his time there, many sorcerers and demonists repent and become Christian. Let’s examine the situation surrounding their confession of sin.

        1. Read Acts 19:11-17. Why was Jesus’ name esteemed by the Ephesians?
        2. Read Acts 19:18-20. What radical actions accompanied the new believers’ confession of sin? What was the result of their confession?
        3. Read Acts 19:21-27. How did the mass conversion of the occultists impact the community at large?
        4. Read Acts 19:28-29. How did the community respond?
        5. TRANSFORM

          1. How can the hidden sin of individuals debilitate the collective mission of the church?
          2. How does Romans 5:6-10 give hope and comfort to you in your sin?

          5. We Love God's Presence

It's pillar time! On this week's episode of Propagate, Josh and Pastor Zach discuss why we should love God's presence. Rather than being some mystical phenomenon in the twilight zone, the presence of God is actually experienced when Spirit-indwelled believers gather together to worship God through Scripture. But how does that work in growth groups? Have a listen and find out.

          6. Meet Weekly

The goal of growth groups is to present every person mature in Christ. This is best done when Christians are regularly, consistently, and intentionally setting aside time for relationship and accountability with God’s people around God’s Word. Join Pastor Zach and Josh on this week's edition of Propagate as they discuss what should constitute a weekly meeting within your growth group.

          7. Sermon Study Breakdown (Neh. 1:4-11)

This week, Pastor Zach and Josh break down the sermon study distributed to growth group leaders at Soteria Church on January 28, 2024. The sermon study on Nehemiah 1:4-11 is as follows:

            REFLECT

            1. What circumstances surrounded a time in your life when you felt like you prayed most faithfully?
            2. Describe a time when you felt like your prayer life was stagnant.
            3. ENCOUNTER

In Nehemiah 1:4-11, Nehemiah prays to God for days. Exiled in Persia, Nehemiah asks God to forgive Israel and to allow them to enter back into the promised land, back into Jerusalem, so that they might once again worship God according to the Law of Moses.

One of the more fascinating aspects of Nehemiah’s prayer is that it is saturated with other Scriptures. The genius of Nehemiah’s prayer is that he put God’s words back before God’s ears.

              1. Briefly, look up the following references and compare it with Nehemiah’s prayer in Nehemiah 1:4-11. How much of Nehemiah’s prayer was original to him compared to how much of it was simply quoting Scriptures back to God?
                • Daniel 9:4
                • 2 Chronicles 6:40
                • Psalm 88:1
                • Daniel 9:5-6
                • Deuteronomy 30:1-5
                • Deuteronomy 9:29
                • Genesis 24:12
                • TRANSFORM

                  1. Have you ever prayed Scripture before? If yes, how did you do that?
                  2. How could weaving prayer into your Scripture reading reinvigorate your prayer life? What specific Scriptures could you pray together as a growth group in the coming weeks?
                  3. PRAYER

                    1. Read through 1 John 4:7-21 as a group. Use these verses as a script to pray back to God.
                    2. Praise God for who he is revealed to be in these verses.
                    3. Ask for God to help our church be what God has called us to be in these verses.
