Let’s Talk About…Shame
Dr Matthew Gibson is my special guest on today’s episode where we are taking a deep dive into the topic of shame.
As a woman shame is something I am very familiar with but it’s not something I was aware of until my 30’s yet I see it causing all kinds of issues and challenges for my clients and society as a whole.
Matthew is an associate professor at the University of Birmingham. He has a PhD in self-conscious emotions and professional practice, is a shame researcher and is currently working on a project on shame and medicine. He is the author of Pride and Shame and Child and Family Social Work and Reassessing Attachment Theory for Child Welfare, along with numerous academic journal articles.
We discuss where shame shows up for us in both day to day life and in our businesses.
Matthew also shares ways in which we can recognise and overcome the damage shame is causing to us, our families, and the wider community.

When we work for ourselves it can be very challenging to hold ourselves accountable to the deadlines we set.
Today we discuss how you can keep yourself accountable by setting realistic but firm deadlines that will help to keep you driven, focused & responsible for your results.
The workshop I mentioned is being held on 18th May and all the details can be found HERE

My very first expert guest on the newly refreshed Focused & Fearless Podcast is the gorgeous Rachel Peru.
Rachel is a Silver haired curve model represented by Bridge Models in London.
Body confidence activist, influencer and host of the Out of the Bubble podcast.
Rachel has fully embraced her curves and her naturally grey hair. In fact, she has become famous for her silver locks and is flying the flag for misunderstood and misrepresented women everywhere. She is passionate about showing other women, particularly those in midlife, that they are not invisible in the fashion industry.
Rachel broke barriers when she appeared in a ground-breaking Swimsuits for All campaign with Ashley Graham, and her career was launched from there.
After starting a new career in modelling aged 46, Rachel now champions women in midlife and inspires others to step out of their comfort zone to become more confident through sharing other women’s stories on her weekly Out of the Bubble podcast.
In this episode we discuss how to start feeling more confident in your own skin regardless of age, how social media has changed the way we view fitness and body shape and I confess something I’m still to this day ashamed to admit.

When did having your own business become so sexy!?
Entrepreneurship is not as glamorous as you think and are we making those with a JOB feel like they are in some way less ambitious just because they choose not to go down the entrepreneurial path?
What do you think?

What would it take for you to stop and switch off from work, social media, family and all the demands of outside life for a whole week?
For me it took major eye surgery. Even though I knew I was at breaking point I refused to stop. Until I was given no other option.
This is part 1 of what I intend to be a very open and honest account of the transformational lessons that have unfolded over the last few months in a hope that by sharing my stories you don't have to go to such dark depths or take as long as i did to find your own sense of clarity, belonging and joy.
I'll be back on social media in a few weeks so be sure to connect with me on Instagram and I'll see you soon xxx
