This week, we finish Luke 12 this week in our A Jesus for Everyone series. Jesus has been talking about our role (what keeps us from being kingdom-minded and what our eternal judgment will look like), but now he shifts to his role. We've all heard about how Jesus came to bring peace, but in this story, he says, "Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division." Woah. He also talks about how to interpret what's happening around us. Are we paying attention to what Jesus is doing?

This week at Providence, John Barber takes us through Luke 12:35-48. Jesus told his disciples that he'd be coming back when they least expected it, and that they needed to be doing his work while he was gone. What's the work that Christ has called us to? What's our mission?

Anthony Burton leads us through Luke 12:4-12, in which Jesus confronts the Pharisees and lawyers about their stance on confessing him before men. Who are they afraid of, men or God? We kick off the New Year with Luke 11:37-2:3, a passage in which Jesus confronts the Pharisees and lawyers with their worst sin: hypocrisy. How can you identify hypocrisy in your own life? And why does it offend God so much?

We're in the Christmas season at Providence! But, instead of starting a new series, we're going to stay in our study of the gospel of Luke. It's amazing how these passages in Luke lead us toward Christmas! This week, Teaching Pastor Chad Sparks takes on two verses - Luke 11:27-28, "As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” What in the world does this have to do with Christmas? This week at Providence, as we continue in our study of the gospel of Luke, Anthony Burton leads us through Luke 11:14-26, a story about Jesus casting out a demon. But, this story has enormous meaning and significance for the state of the church as well. Who's the strong man? And who is the stronger man?

At the beginning of Luke 11, Jesus' disciples ask him an incredibly profound and important question - how do we pray? Jesus answers their question first with what we call The Lord's Prayer.
