  • Power of the Faith-Giver (video)
Following the healing of the woman with the "issue of blood," Jesus said, "thy faith has made thee whole." Did Jesus mean the act of her faith or the object of her faith? The Gadarene and the twelve-year-old girl in the same text had no faith. The thief on the cross had no faith. Jesus made her whole. This message looks at seven descriptions of faith in the New Testament. It closes considering Jesus' call to rest by faith in Matthew 11.

  • The Fruit of Righteousness (video)
James addresses troubled congregations experiencing strife and confusion due to competitive teachers. Paul calls them "pastor-teacher(s)" (Ephesians 4:11). These men are demonstrating misguided and mismanaged zeal, which James identifies as "envying." James calls upon them to focus on and to demonstrate "the fruit of righteousness." He identifies purity, peace-making gentleness, approachableness and mercy as this fruit.

  • Wisdom From Above (audio)
The theme of the third chapter of James is avoiding and overcoming conflict. The chapter begins with would-be teachers-pastors creating strife in the congregation. James confronts strife in two ways. First, control your tongue (vs. 2-12). Second, control your heart (vs. 13-18). This requires God's wisdom, leading James to contrast true and false wisdom. After discussing each verse, this message looks to the wisdom-statement in 1 Corinthians 1:30.

  • Suffering Touches the Savior (video)
The fifth chapter provides three healing miracles: the demon-possessed man, the raising of Jairus' daughter, the woman with the issue of blood. The latter is our concern. The narrative appears in the first three Gospel Accounts. It portrays quiet human suffering yet shows the gentleness and sovereignty of Jesus Christ. The Law had not answer; it simply said "touch not." Christ fulfilled the Law and delivered the suffering woman.
