  • The Demons of Gadara (audio)
Capernaum was on the west side of the Sea of Galilee. Gadara, in the region of Decapolis, was on the east side. Life was starkly different. On the west side were small fishing villages and simple Jewish worshippers of Jehovah. In Decapolis were Gentiles who knew nothing of Jehovah or His word. Jesus and His disciples crossed from Capernaum to the Decapolis. Jesus was confronted by a demon-possessed man whom the Lord delivered.

  • The Teacher and the Tongue (video)
David Simpson James Study God calls and prepares Bible teachers. Men and schools cannot do God's work. James faced the issue of men who wanted to occupy the place of Bible teachers or pastors who were not God-called, God-equipped or God-placed. He gave a stern warning and it raised the question of the misuse of speech. This is his sixth question. He looks to the opening revelation in Genesis and to several obvious metaphors to make his points.

  • My Blood of the Covenant (video)
The substitution of Christ for sinners is a foundational truth. It reaches from Genesis to Revelation. God set forth Christ to be the Substitute. He was the Substitute from the cradle to the cross. Today, He is the Substitute at the right hand of the heavenly Father in heaven. Christ declares His substitution on the last evening of His earthly life. That's where this message takes its text, but it searches the Scriptures to lay out this blessed doctrine.

  • The Gospel of Great Calm (audio)
Jesus desires to depart Capernaum and the busy western side of the Sea of Galilee for the eastern shore. He and His disciples enter the ship and He goes to sleep. Suddenly a violent wind storm descends from surrounding mountains. Being about to sink they awaken Him. He speaks to the wind and the waves. They immediately lapse into stillness. Mark calls it "a great calm." That's what He does for sinners. He calls them to His gospel of "calm."

  • The Trembling Devils (video)
The "devils" mentioned in verse 19 illustrate untrue faith. They have head knowledge but not heart knowledge. They fear God but they don't know God. James uses Abraham as an illustration. He refers to Genesis 22 where Abraham is instructed to slay his promised son, Isaac. He obeys but God's angel stops him. His obedience showed his faith. He also uses Rahab the harlot in Jericho as an illustration. Her obedience showed her faith.
