In the fall of 1998 Lisl Aumen was convicted of the first degree murder of a police officer that happened while she sat handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser. She started a correspondence with author Hunter S. Thompson that led to a public fight for her freedom and for Colorado to reexamine the felony murder statute.
