This is for all of my American friends (but can apply to anyone): Please take this time to reflect, support, donate, sign petitions. You have the right to celebrate the Fourth of July only once you have acknowledged and (tried - as much as I try, there are things that I will never understand as someone who is white/hasn’t experienced many of the struggles that poc have faced in US history) understood the struggles that poc and other minorities have faced in history and today, once you are actively trying to help, advocate, support, once you understand your privilege and will use it to help power this movement forward and support others. Check your biases. know your privilege. Help raise each other up, community has been torn apart with this virus and the police brutality, we don’t need any more tearing down, it’s time to rise up! P.s. people who support the police shouldn’t be saying that abortion is bad/kills, when the police will just kill our babies later in life (and I know they aren’t “our” babies, they are black babies, and I will never experience the pain of losing a child to the police, but no one should ever have to go through that loss, or lose, lose the rest of their life because of the color of their skin and the racism that the US still holds.) Here are some resources to check out, as mentioned in the black lives matter episode: This is obviously a great resource for everything: https://blacklivesmatter.com
Yale course on the African American post emancipation experience. HIGHLY recommend, learned a lot: https://oyc.yale.edu/NODE/46
There used to be (might be up now, it’s been taken down but put back up a few times already) a video on YouTube that you can watch to donate for free, but sadly, it was taken down. If you search “blm donation” on YouTube, you should be able to find similar videos though. Also, you can find videos like this for donations for the Yemen crisis.
Follow @iamtabithabrown for loads of positivity.
Watch Dear White People, American son, fruitvale station, or clemency, or the 13th on Netflix to learn more about racism in America and private prisons benefiting off of poc prisoners.
