  • 269 - Another "First" Round

A hell of an eventful few days in the NHL and we're ready to gab about it!

Ryan, Geeta and P Mac gather around the satellite hot stove and look back at Jason Spezza's heartbreaking exit from the qualifying round. We discuss if or where he could play next year. We also look at the collapse by the Maple Leafs and John Tortorella's kind words coming to the defence of Sheldon Keefe.

They break down all eight first round matches and give their predictions. Will a team fresh off the qualifying round have the edge over a round robin team playing some mean nothing hockey? How many of these rounds are toss ups and which aren't much of a contest? We'll tell you!

We also look at the New York Rangers winning the draft lottery, answer some great listener questions and Ryan gives an important Shitty Beatles softball update!

  • CANUCKS WIN!!!

Well it happened. For the first time since Kevin Bieksa got some incredible help from a stanchion and put an 2OT goal past Antti Niemi on May 24th 2011, the Vancouver Canucks won a playoff series.

We get together the morning after to look at the incredible shutout effort the Canucks put up in game 3 and the shaky but gutsy victory in game 4. With Jacob Markstrom not having his best night, the young Canucks core put the pedal to the floor and won it early in overtime thanks to resident overtime hero Chris Tanev.

What's in store for the Canucks in store for the first round? We wait patiently. But until then, celebrate and enjoy this win. Just like Chris Tanev is...

The Canucks come sleepy out of the gate and get shut out by the Minnesota Wild in game 1, then proceed to have one hell of a bounce back effort!

This is a clip from June's Patreon-exclusive bonus episode which is a deep dive on the 2010/11 Vancouver Canucks. In this clip, Ryan and P Mac discuss a key 'what if?' during this playoff run. A full bench starts off the show as the gang discusses once again, the likelihood of the NHL (or sports for that matter) returning to North America. With COVID-19 cases spiking across the United States, it's hard to imagine it could be sooner rather than later.

A difficult week in our world to say the least, we try to talk about hockey and life, but some weeks it's a lot harder than others.
