The dog days of the preseason are here and tickets to those preseason games are cheap cheap cheap! There's also a new mascot in Edmonton but the PON gang has a couple suggestions after Hunter the Lynx is unveiled to less than stellar reviews.
Another full bench on the podcast this week. Dave, Geeta, P Mac and Ryan gather in Geeta's palatial estate to talk all about the anticlimactic final of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Did we ever doubt Canada would win it? No. Was it exciting? Not really. Can they improve it for the alleged 2020 World Cup Of Hockey? They most certainly think so!
They take a look at the Canucks' preseason. Demko and Subban have both been sent down to Utica, and Troy Stecher is the clear cut front runner for the Fedor Fedorov Memorial Trophy as the Canucks preseason MVP. Can he make the opening night roster? Or will he be a midseason call up?
Also on the Canucks front, the gang remembers Cody Hodgson and his controversial time with the Canucks. From meddling dads to poorly handled back injuries, his career is cut short as he retires at 26 to work with the Nashville Predators.
Finally, Ryan plays a game of real or fake North American Major Junior or Professional hockey teams with Geeta, Dave and Paul. Play along at home!
Enjoy!
Team Europe somehow reinvents themselves, and the team built by Satan heads to the World Cup of Hockey finals to play Team Canada in a best of three!
It's a full bench this week. Ryan, Dave, P Mac and Geeta get together to talk all about the drastic turn around for Europe, the amazing collapse of Team USA and their checking and grinder 2004-style roster and the dominant Team Canada. Will Europe give Canada a run for their money? Or will the Canadian dominance continue across another series?
In Montreal Canadiens news, Michel Therrien is in hot water for allegedly saying Mac Pacioretty was the worst Habs captain of all time. Did he actually say this? Is he right? Or has there been a worse captain than Patches right now in this rough stretch in Habs history?
They take a look at the unfortunate injury to Clarke MacArthur during a Senators training camp scrimmage. A completely senseless and stupid and preventable injury. They also talk about Erik Gudbranson lining up with Ben Hutton on the Vancouver Canucks' second defenceman unit and look back at Alain Vingeault's time as the head coach in Vancouver.
Finally, the gang talks about the new FOX show 'Pitch' about a female pitcher who makes it to the Major Leagues to pitch for the San Diego Padres. They discuss how far away we are from women entering the top 4 team sports in North America and what type of roles they would have. They also have some fun time with PON Mail in 'Correspondence' to close out the show!
Enjoy!
The summer is over (almost) and the podcast is back! Just in time for the first games of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Dave, P Mac and Ryan gather again after an entire summer off to talk about the pre-tournament hype of the World Cup. They look at the initial games (North America vs. Europe and Team Canada vs. Team USA) and how quickly the excitement died down as quickly as the intense play died down.
They give their winning predictions, discuss whether Canada is no longer that interested in Team Canada after so many years of dominance following a less than impressive showing at international tournaments in the 1990's .
Geeta is on vacation in Prague in the Czech Republic right now, but she finds time, even with the time difference, to Skype into the show. Dave gives her some tips on hockey related places to see and she asks why Torts has benched Big Buff for the first game... could it be anthem related?!
Finally, the boys spend a fair bit of time talking about the Vancouver Canucks pre-season. From players currently in the World Cup as well as the Young Stars Tournament happening in Pentiction that will feature Thatcher Demko's first time playing in Canucks sweater. They give predictions on who will make the team, who's on the fence and predict who will be the pre-season MVP and win the prestigious Fedor Federov Memorial Trophy!?
Enjoy!
Summer's here and the time is right, For dancing in the streets!
We've got a full bench on the podcast this week as we gear up for summer and forget about hockey, but a wild week in the NHL following the draft including the literal free agent frenzy gives us a lot to talk about!
Ryan, Geeta Dave and P Mac talk about the big blockbuster trades. Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson in what they all argue is a lopsided deal. Shea Weber for PK Subban in the least sensical trade in recent memory. They try to figure how and why these trades happened and why PK Subban could have rubbed management and players the wrong way.
They also look at Loui Eriksson's new deal with the Vancouver Canucks. What it means for their development, their 2016/17 season and their chances for making the playoffs.
They also ask one another just who the most overrated NHL player is a and share some predictions on Mason Raymond's season with his new team, the Anaheim Ducks and ask how many NHL games Thatcher Demko will play for the Canucks in 2016/17.
Enjoy the podcast and enjoy your summer!

They also talk about Pavel Datsyuk's cap hit being traded to the Arizona Money Ballers for the 16th overall pick, what this means for both clubs, is Stamkos headed to Detroit Rock City? and they look at the tradition of Arizona eating contracts of current or future Hall of Famers.
They look at Calgary's new bargain basement goalie (a band-aid goalie), Edmonton's draft luck, even when they don't win the lottery and the plethora of trades that went down on draft day. Andrew Shaw to Montreal being a stand out!

It's the first day of summer, the hockey season is winding down and rumours are swirling that Canada's boyfriend, George Stroumboulopoulos could no longer be the host of Hockey Night in Canada.
Geeta, P Mac and Ryan are with you this week to talk all about the potential big changes in Toronto with Rogers and Hockey Night in Canada. Where did they go wrong? Did they try and re-invent the wheel? Did they give up on Strombo too soon? Or write off Ron MacLean too easily?
They look at the goalie shuffle going on in the NHL. Marc-Andre Fleury and his two Cup rings could be on the move while Frederik Andersen was just traded to Toronto for two picks. Is the price of a promising goalie going up?
They talk about Randy Carlyle being rehired in Anaheim, Bruce Boudreau's new team in Minnesota and their unusual coaching staff. And P Mac explains just what kind of coach Glen Gulutzan is and what the Calgary Flames are expecting from him!

They take a phone call from Ol Jimmy Rutherford, who's still celebrating his Stanley Cup victory, discuss Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel winning the cup after two big trades from Canadian markets, and they discuss where Pittsburgh is headed in the off season.
They also talk about expansion into Las Vegas, when it could all go down and their less than stellar predictions for a fan base and general interest of the NHL in Vegas by locals and tourists.
Finally, they joke about the idea of moving a second team in the Vancouver market, what they would call it and how to make it a recipe for success.
A fun and loose podcast as the NHL season comes to an end while we gear up for the NHL draft and free agency.

Pittsburgh has the edge on San Jose in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final, but it's 30 degrees in Vancouver, BC, so the 'Nets might be a little distracted.
Ryan, Geeta, Dave and P Mac, THE FULL BENCH!, join you this week to talk about the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, the Combine and the solid showing from the BCHL in top ranked prospects.
Where is Milan Lucic going to wind up? Los Angeles? Edmonton? Both seem like they want to pay him what he wants, but is it worth it? Does he have the longevity to make it worth LA or Edmonton's while? Do their GM's even care?!
The gang looks back at the Gudbranson trade, P Mac chimes in to talk about asset management and the picks that were given up to get the big D-man. It was a steep price to pay. Will it pay off?

Finally, the gang looks at the new Florida Panthers jerseys, gives their thoughts on the wardrobe change and suggests who's due in the NHL for a change.

Jared McCann gets traded for a giant defensive beast from Florida, just what the Canucks needed. Oh and the Stanley Cup Final is here!
Ryan, Geeta and Dave are with you this week to talk all about the Jared McCann for Erik Gudbranson trade, which saw three 2016 NHL Draft picks moved as well. They talk about the positives and the negatives of the trade, but all agree, Gudbranson was what the Canucks needed...big angry defence.
They also talk about the LA Kings taking the 'C' off of Downtown Dustin Brown, who their next captain will be and what their plan is for the American captain, who you know, won them two Stanley Cups as their captain. Will he get bought out? Traded? Or put up in the expansion draft?
They also look at the Tampa Bay Lightning, praise the tough love process by Yzerman and Cooper and figure out just what their two troubled centres will do or where they will go.
Finally, the gang gives their Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe predictions, talk about the Bachelor and even those lil scamps, the Toronto Raptors!
Oh, and a little snippet of Nautical Disaster by The Tragically Hip off the top. We're thinking of you, Gord!

They talk about Team Canada's very young roster at the IIHF World Championships and the impressive effort they put forth. The same can not be said for Finland in the final or Team USA through the entire tournament based on the roster they sent.
They look at Fleury and the Penguins tough game 5 overtime loss and what it will mean for the rest of the series? Are they done in the water or can Matt Murray win it for Shawn Michaels?
They ask the question if Yzerman could/would trade Drouin after having one hell of a playoffs and talk about the upcoming World Cup.
Finally, they talk about some love from the porn industry and make plans for next year's World Championship
