  • Voices from the Road: Boys from Conneault, Ohio
Be advised: racist and homophobic slurs inside
I stopped by a bar in eastern Ohio tonight just inside the border from Pennsylvania up in the steel milling towns along Lake Eerie. I am joined today by 3 locals of the bar and town for a shoot the shit session. It's raw and unfiltered- that's what you're going to get. I don't seek people out for these interviews, I take what I can get each day to keep White Lightning on the road to the next state. We are joined tonight by a special guest...trapped possum.

  • Voices from the Road- Timmy Torrence, Beckley, West Virginia
This was a fascinating conversation for me to stumble into!!I If you haven’t listened to an interview from the road yet this is worth the 20 minutes to listen.
Timmy was on the side of the road heading out of Beckley, WV selling an assortment of tools and small engine machines like weed wackers and the sort. He is a 3 year clean heroine user and spent a few years in prison as a result of his addiction. We talk about the rampant drug abuse in his neck of the woods, we talk about his time in prison, and some other wild shit.
    Thank you, Timmy. ENJOY!!

  • Voices from the Road: Kevin from Huntington, Indiana
Give this one a listen! This episode is what it's all about. Giving the people an opportunity for their voice to be heard and sometimes equally as important or even more important a listening ear. I was 8 miles south of Huntington, Indiana on my way to Muncie when I saw KEvin walking on the road north to Huntington. I pulled over, turned around, and stopped to ask what he was up to. He was on his way to the food bank in Huntington which was still over 8 miles up the road and in the rain. Kevin had plenty to say so I asked him to come on the podcast and gave him a ride into Huntington. Give him a listen he has lots of entertaining stories to share. ENJOY!

  • Voices from the Road: Onalee Zartman- Holland, Michigan
Onalee is a costume designer, seamstress and tour guide at the De Zwaan Windmill in Holland, Michigan. The De Zwaan windmill is the only functioning windmill in the United States to have been built in the Netherlands and shipped to the USA. They still operate daily grinding gran flour. She managed to teach me quite a bit in the few short minutes we talked. For the record…stroopwafels are the best treat in the entire world IMO. I was so grateful that Onalee agreed to talk with me for 10 minutes as she was tight on time heading to a class where she is deepening her knowledge of Dutch grain mills and how best to share that knowledge. Thanks, Onalee.
Onalee designs Dutch costumes, Colonial and Civil War Civilian Attire, and Wool Capotes & Blankets. Check out her work here:

  • Voices from the Road: Mark Wagner, Middleton, Wisconsin
    Mark Wagner
    Wagner Dairies
    Middleton, Wisconsin
Chatting with Mark Wagner or Wagner Dairy in Middleton, Wisconsin. This is one conversation I could have again. Mark has some interesting and innovative ideas that he brings to agriculture and dairy farming in general. He tells us about new milking machines that give a gentler massage on the animals as well as being more effective and efficient making the entire process easier on the cows. Mark told me about his interest in using brush waste and water waste from cities to compost in his fields, a new corn for the US dairy industry that obtains more easily digestible starches for cows, and how he uses O3, a free radical, in the cooling and shipping process so that his milk is never exposed to oxygen until bottling.
