  • Kelly, Hal, and Tori in Vicksburg, Mississippi
Welcome Kelly and Tori from Vicksburg, MS and Hal Evans from Houston, Texas! This was a really cool group discussion from this afternoon at Lorelei Bookstore. On the drive from Greenville to Vicksburg this afternoon I noticed a large campaign of “EPA FINISH THE PUMPS” and Kelley shares the story behind that. The panel also speaks up for Mississippi which always being slandered on the internet- I will say they make a nice argument for the state! I ask them the same poll question I posted here on Instagram regarding the confederate flag. We also cover a few other topics briefly and Hal shares a fascinating family history story as well! Thank you @torid.4 , @halevanspoet and Kelly!

  • Voices from the Road: Garrett Collums from Arkansas
I met Garrett at the urinal in a campground bathroom. He is a recently graduated and board certified RD, MS in Nutrition Diagnostics. In our brief 15 minute conversation we cover briefly some of Garrett’s dietetics philosophy, his band Sycamore (which will be dropping an album soon and that I will be sharing), his passion of mushrooms and company he is starting out to partner with local sources to bring mushrooms to the dinner table. We really covered a lot in a brief amount of time. Garrett was on his way to Fayetteville tonight with his friends to see the Avett Brothers in concert but he was gracious enough to share 15 minutes with me. Thanks, @garrett.collums !

Welcome Stefany from Fair Play, Missouri today! • Voices from the Road: The Boys in Fargo, ND- Sam, Landon, and Sam
Different format tonight as I hit the boys with a series of Pick em, would you rather, fuck one kill one marry one and other Fargo/broader ND related questions. We end it with a one legged, eyes closed, Busch light chug off. I took it easy on him…just a good actor. Kidding those are my actual chugging skills. Good game Sam.
Check out @701_adventures all about hunting, fishing, and traveling. I wonder what alligator ceviche would taste like?

  • Voices from the Road: Doralee from St. Francis, South Dakota
I don’t know really what to say about this episode other than everyone should listen to what Dora has to share. For me this was easily one of the most special interviews I will have along the entire road trip. We talk about life in St. Francis on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Dora did an incredible job sharing her story and talking about the good, bad, and ugly side of life on the reservation. It was a conversation I walked away from wishing I had more time, wishing I would’ve asked more questions, different questions and all sorts of things. Specifically when she brought up human trafficking that happens down here. I don’t know I just wasn’t prepared for that conversation to come up. I wish I would’ve asked her to go deeper because reflecting on the conversation it’s something that is heavy on her mind but at the moment I was taken off guard and just failed to ask. Just listen to Dora’s words. Listen to this one. Thank you, Dora.
Today (August 9) is World Indigenous People’s Day which I only found out after I had spoke with Dora. Total happy coincidence but so happy to have Dora join the podcast today.

  • Voices from the Road: Trymby in Valentine, Nebraska
Trymby kicks out a killer continental breakfast for the guests of Comfort Inn hotel in Valentine, Nebraska every morning. Today I caught up with her about the tourism that brings a constant flow of people to a small town in north central Nebraska year round. Right now the Sturgis Motorcycle rally is going on, the Niobrara river is a popular destination for a day of leisure spent floating down the river (she told me people have started to use cattle tanks as a dry option to float as well), rodeos and bull bashes and more. Trmybys advice to people is just show up and have fun, be courteous and kind!

  • Voices from the Road: Mark with Solstice Farm, Cedar Falls, Iowa
I met Mark today at the Cedar Falls Farmers Market where he was selling goods from his family’s “small solar powered, sustainable farm in Waverly, Iowa, specializing in pasture raised poultry, eggs, and cultivated mushrooms.” Mark tells us all about the methodology of his farm and how he became interested in locally sourced sustainable farming. In the latter half of the conversation we talk all things mushrooms. He shows off a beautiful white monster sized Lions Mane mushroom. Note on Lions Mane mushrooms- I take Lions mane mushroom in my coffee nearly everyday. Lions mane in short, boosts cognitive function and I especially find benefit in mental sharpness and focus when I pair it with my coffee. Mark was a wealth of knowledge and a great guest for the show. Thanks, Mark!!
