VJtheDJ: The Architect and Mentor

VJtheDJ [PUMPDABEAT] is a foundational figure with an almost three-decade career, known for defining the ballroom sound with pioneering beats (Ha, Kiki, Vogue). As the leader of PUMPDABEAT, he has mentored a dynasty whose members became in-demand festival and radio DJs, tour announcers (like Kevin JZ Prodigy), Broadway producers and actors, and more. Tonight, he takes his place back on the decks as the celebrated Cultural Architect to share the stage with his prodigy.

DJ Delish: The Visionary and New-School Pioneer

This is the "daddy-daughter" duo that's been needed for so long. DJ Delish rose under VJtheDJ's guidance, but she has emerged as a powerhouse in her own right—a Bandcamp Honoree, Philadelphia Vogue Innovator, and founder of Time Machine Records. Her music, a genre-defying fusion of raw energy and social purpose, is pushing the global ballroom sound forward and reaching mainstream audiences (including features on HBO Max's Legendary).

This time, she questions the decline in creativity despite technological advancements. Her inquiry isn't meant to antagonize but to awaken a realization that the ballroom, underground club, and overall music scenes are stuck in a repetitive and disheartening loop. This project aims to reignite self-awareness among music, visual, and vocal producers in these communities.

Known for her unconventional and sometimes outlandish production techniques, DJ Delish stays true to her methodical process in this project. With an extensive history of using unlikely and daring songs and samples to create her distinctive sound, this mixtape is no exception. You may hear "Yoshi," a piece of a prophetess, or samples of a commentator from 1997—with her, you never know until you press play.
