This week on Pure EVil MMA Podcast EVil Eddie is joined by Bellators Mike "The Savage" Kimbel whos coming off an impressive first round win that came inside the first 90 seconds at Bellator 194 Main Card Roy vs Matt. Kimbel has some stand offish comments for some of the local talents around CT and is insistent that he has outgrown the local scene and is ready for that next step forward. Dillon Danis is brought up along with the benefits of cross training at different gyms and constintly challenging yourself. He shares a fun one up game that he does on his instagram page with fellow best friend and fighter Jesse "James"Kosakowski, where they jump incredible heights on one foot while looking slick. finally it becomes apparent towards the end of the show that Kimbel keeps it 100 and speaks what's on his mind with no filter but well thought out and very educated on the sport of MMA and what it takes to stand out and keep the gears flowing in your career. Last he shares how he gets hype when training and gives us a song to check out ( "The Ride" By Madeyouso).

With Dana Whites Tuesday Night Contender Series having so much success in the first season, birthing future stars like Shane O'Malley, Zu Anyanwu, Kurt Holobaugh, Benito Lopez to name a few, its no wonder why fight fans around the world are thirsty for a second season with fresh new faces. Amongst the recent names that broke to be on season 2, local Connecticut fighter Justin Sumter stood out to most locals due to his exciting 1st round finishing style as he trains under Nick Newell. In case anyone whos reading this isn't aware, Nick Newell was also given a shot on this season during week 6. 

Currently on a 6 fight win streak, Sumter was preparing for CES 50 vs former UFC veteran Ron Stallings but with the UFC knocking at the door it was unclear if Justin would be aiming to fight both events. July 31st marks week 7 of season 2 where Sumter (6-1) will take on Colorado's and LFA's own, Ian Heinisch (10-1) who carries more of a KO fight style compared to Sumter submission specialty. 

EVil Eddie of Pure EVil MMA had the pleasure to talk with Justin Sumter to get a feel for what the vibe at the "Fighting Arts Academy" in West Haven Connecticut, was like with the excitement of two fighters in the same gym getting the opportunity of a lifetime. 

Connecticut has a handful of well known fighters training out of the state like Nick Newell, Glover Texiera, to name a few, but when it comes to females there hasn't been any single female that's really stood out over the past decade. Well Connecticut is finally getting a rising star to get behind and cheer on with New Havens Marissa "Spider Monkey" Messer-Belenchia whos first professional MMA is right around the corner and is coming fresh off her most recent win at Mohegan Sun for Reality Fighting 101 where she was crowned Amateur Atom-weight Champion for the promotion.
Training out of North Haven CT under Bellators Andrew Calandrelli who was one of the staples in helping Nick Newell get his foot in MMA and even brought him into his gym straight out of high school after seeing the potential. Andrew told EVil Eddie of My MMA News that the second Marisa walked in the door it was a similar feeling he had in just first few hours of watching Marisa and immediately knew with the right effort and training she would be the star CT has been waiting for. Andrew goes on to tell us that Marisa had no idea what MMA was when she arrived, everything was fresh and new for her.
Before her last fight at Mohegan Sun Marisa's boyfriend passed away unexcitingly, but to everyone's surprise she still was insistent that she wanted to push forward and train for her fight at Reality Fighting 101.  When faced with such extreme life altering situations people usually crash and burn or rise from the ashes and that's what separates people from champions. It didn't get any better for her come fight week either. The day before the fight was supposed to take place Marissa fell ill after weigh ins and began vomiting. No one was sure if she was going to be able to compete due to the rough circumstances she faced. Come fight day at Mohegan Sun Casino (Indian reservation) to everyone's surprise, no questions were asked and Marisa was able to fight as long as she showed up and she did just that. Marisa took the fight in a decision victory and now looking forward to her future in this scene.
