  • Was Life Really Better Before Jesus? | When Following God Gets Hard

Have you ever gone through a difficult season and thought, “Life seemed easier before I started seriously following Jesus”?

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann reflects on Exodus 16:3 and the Israelites' response after God delivered them from Egypt. When the wilderness became uncomfortable, they remembered the food they had in Egypt—but seemed to forget the bondage that came with it.

We can do the same thing.

When following God feels difficult, our past can suddenly look more appealing than it really was. But easier doesn't always mean better, and hard doesn't automatically mean you're on the wrong path.

This episode is an encouragement to stop romanticizing what God delivered you from and start remembering the faithfulness of the God who brought you out.

    In This Episode

✔ Why difficult seasons can change how we remember our past

✔ The danger of romanticizing our “Egypt”

✔ Why the wilderness doesn't mean you made the wrong choice

✔ Trusting God's purpose when obedience becomes uncomfortable

✔ Remembering God's faithfulness instead of returning to what's familiar

    Scriptures Mentioned

    📖 Exodus 16:2–3

    📖 Numbers 11:4–6

    📖 Deuteronomy 8:2–3

    📖 Psalm 77:11–12

    📖 John 6:66–69

    Key Takeaway

Don't romanticize what God delivered you from because you're uncomfortable with where He's leading you.

When life gets difficult, remember God—not just Egypt. Remember His faithfulness, what He brought you through, and why you chose to follow Jesus in the first place.

    Reflection Question

When life gets difficult, what parts of your old life are you tempted to romanticize—and what has God done in your life that you need to remember instead?

  • Trust God and Wait | What Psalm 37 Is Teaching Me

What do you do when life isn't going the way you hoped—but you still believe God is leading you?

Welcome to another Coffee Conversation, where we have real conversations about real life through a biblical lens.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann shares what God has been teaching her while meditating on Psalm 37 and Romans 12.

Sometimes trusting God sounds simple until waiting becomes uncomfortable, our plans don't work out, or we're tempted to take matters into our own hands. But Psalm 37 gives us a different response: trust God, do good, delight in Him, commit everything to Him, and wait patiently for Him to act.

Clarisa reflects on learning to surrender her own plans, recognize the consequences of moving too quickly, and trust that God's direction is still good—even when it doesn't match the timeline or outcome she had in mind.

If you're in a season of waiting on God, surrendering your plans, or learning to trust His timing, grab your coffee and join the conversation.

    In This Episode

✔ What Psalm 37 is teaching Clarisa about trusting God

✔ What it means to delight yourself in the Lord

✔ Surrendering your desires and plans to God's direction

✔ Learning not to move ahead of God

✔ Trusting God when waiting becomes uncomfortable

✔ Choosing faith and obedience over complaining and worry

    Scriptures to Read This Week

📖 Psalm 37 — Trust, delight, commit, be still, and wait on the Lord

📖 Romans 12 — Surrendering yourself to God and allowing Him to transform your thinking

📖 Isaiah 58 — A deeper look at fasting and seeking God

    Key Takeaway

Trust God even when things aren't going the way you desire.

You don't have to force the outcome or figure everything out yourself. Commit your plans to God, stay close to Him, continue doing what He's asking of you, and give Him room to lead.

Sometimes waiting isn't God withholding something from you. He may be preparing, redirecting, protecting, or teaching you to trust Him more deeply.

    Reflection Questions
    • Is there an area of my life where I'm struggling to trust God's timing?
    • Have I committed my plans to God—or am I asking Him to bless plans I've already made?
    • What would it look like for me to delight in God while I wait instead of constantly focusing on what I don't have?
    Something to Remember This Week

Trust God. Do good. Delight in Him. Commit your plans to Him. Be still. Wait for Him to act.

You may not know exactly what God is doing yet, but you can continue pursuing Him while you wait.

  • Who Deserves God’s Mercy? | The Lesson of Jonah

What happens when God wants to show mercy to someone you believe deserves judgment?

We love God's grace when we're the ones who need forgiveness. We praise Him for not giving up on us and for loving us despite our past. But what happens when God extends that same mercy to someone who hurt us, offended us, or has done something we strongly condemn?

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann walks through the book of Jonah and explores a difficult question:

Do we actually want everyone to experience the mercy of God—or only the people we believe deserve it?

Through Jonah's resistance to Nineveh, we see how personal feelings, pride, anger, and judgment can collide with God's desire to reach people who are still in spiritual darkness.

This episode challenges us to examine whether our personal opinions have ever gotten in the way of loving, praying for, or sharing Christ with someone God still desires to reach.

    In This Episode

✔ Why God's assignment may require us to move beyond our personal feelings

✔ The difference between mercy and approving someone's behavior

✔ What Jonah's attitude toward Nineveh reveals about our own hearts

✔ Why God's mercy extends to both the lost and the believer who still needs heart work

✔ How pride, anger, and judgment can interfere with obedience

✔ What it means to be available for God to use us to reach others

    Scripture References

    📖 Jonah 1–4

    📖 Matthew 9:37–38

    Scriptures to Read This Week

📖 Luke 23:40–43 — The criminal on the cross

📖 2 Peter 3:9 — God desires people to come to repentance

📖 Romans 5:8 — Christ died for us while we were sinners

📖 Matthew 5:43–44 — Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

    📖 Ephesians 2:4–5 — God's mercy toward us

📖 Luke 6:36 — Be merciful as your Father is merciful

    Key Takeaway

God's mercy is bigger than our personal judgment.

Showing mercy doesn't mean calling evil good, removing accountability, or approving someone's behavior. But as followers of Jesus, we aren't responsible for deciding who deserves the opportunity to receive salvation.

The same mercy we freely received is the mercy God may ask us to demonstrate to someone else.

    Reflection Questions
    1. Who have I subconsciously decided is undeserving of God's mercy?
    2. Have my personal feelings ever caused me to resist something God was asking me to do?
    3. Can I genuinely pray for God to save, transform, and restore someone whose actions I strongly condemn?
Something to Think About This Week

You may plant the seed. Someone else may water it. God gives the increase.

Your responsibility isn't to control someone's response. Your responsibility is to remain available and obedient when God gives you an opportunity to pray, love, encourage, forgive, or share the gospel.

Don't allow hate, ego, pride, or personal judgment to prevent God from using you to reach someone who needs Jesus.

  • God Is Doing a New Thing—But Are You Looking in the Right Place?

Have you been waiting for God to do something new in your life—but looking for the evidence in all the wrong places?

Welcome to another Coffee Conversation, where we have real conversations about real life through a biblical lens.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann reflects on Isaiah 43 and what it means to recognize when God is doing a new thing. After receiving an unexpected confirmation through Isaiah 43:2, she returned to the chapter and found herself drawn to another question in Isaiah 43:19:

    “Do you not perceive it?”

When we pray for change, it's easy to look for something tangible—a new job, relationship, opportunity, financial breakthrough, or change in circumstances. But what if some of the first evidence of God's work isn't happening around you?

What if it's happening within you?

Clarisa shares some of the internal changes she has begun recognizing in her own life and encourages listeners to consider the growth they may have overlooked while waiting for their circumstances to change.

If you've been waiting on God, praying for a new season, or wondering whether God is working in your life, this Coffee Conversation may help you recognize that the new thing you've been asking for could have already begun.

    In This Episode

✔ What Isaiah 43 teaches us about God's presence in difficult seasons

✔ Recognizing God's confirmation and encouragement

✔ What “Do you not perceive it?” can teach us about noticing growth

✔ Why we shouldn't only look for external evidence of change

✔ Recognizing confidence, consistency, hope, wisdom, and determination as growth

✔ Learning to seek God's strategy instead of responding with panic

✔ How to recognize what God may already be developing within you

    Scripture References

    📖 Isaiah 43:2

    📖 Isaiah 43:19-20

    Key Takeaway

Sometimes we're so focused on asking God to change what's around us that we don't recognize what He's already changing within us.

The new thing may not begin with a new opportunity, relationship, job, or circumstance.

    It may begin with you.

Don't overlook the confidence, wisdom, discipline, patience, boundaries, hope, or deeper trust in God that wasn't there before.

    Reflection Questions
    • What do I have within me now that I didn't have six months or a year ago?
    • Have I been overlooking internal growth because I'm waiting for an external change?
    • Where can I see evidence that God has been developing my character, faith, or perspective?
    • What might God be asking me to perceive differently in this season?
Something to Think About This Week

Take a few minutes and ask yourself:

    “What is new in me?”

    Maybe you're more patient.

Maybe you've established boundaries you couldn't establish before.

    Maybe you're more disciplined.

Maybe you recover from disappointment faster.

Maybe you're learning to seek God before panicking.

Maybe you're finally believing something God has been telling you for years.

    Write it down.

The evidence that God is doing something new may be closer than you think.

  • You Don’t Have to Believe Everything You Think | How to Guard Your Mind

Have you ever stopped in the middle of a thought and wondered, “Why did I just think that?”

Maybe you're replaying an old conversation, imagining something that hasn't happened, thinking negatively about yourself, or spending more time in your imagination than the life happening in front of you.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann explores what it means to guard your mind as a Christian and become intentional about the thoughts you allow yourself to entertain.

Not every thought that enters your mind deserves your agreement.

We’re talking about overthinking, rumination, false scenarios, negative self-talk, daydreaming, and the dangers of an unguarded mind—along with practical ways to recognize where your thoughts are taking you and redirect your attention toward truth.

If you've ever felt mentally stuck in the past, emotionally affected by something that hasn't actually happened, or simply wondered, “Where did that thought come from?”—this episode is for you.

    In This Episode

✔ What an idle and unguarded mind can look like

✔ Rumination and getting mentally stuck

✔ The emotional impact of false scenarios

✔ When imagination becomes an escape

✔ How our attention can drift toward other people's lives

✔ Practical ways to examine and redirect your thoughts

    Scripture References

    📖 1 Peter 5:8

    📖 Romans 8:6

    📖 2 Thessalonians 3:11

    📖 Isaiah 26:3

    📖 1 Thessalonians 5:8

    📖 2 Peter 1:4-8

    Key Takeaway

You don't have to believe everything you think.

The goal isn't simply to stop thinking negatively. The goal is to learn how to redirect your mind toward truth.

    🧠 PRACTICAL “THOUGHT CHECK”

When you catch yourself spiraling, overthinking, ruminating, or creating scenarios in your mind, pause and ask:

    1. What am I thinking about?

    Name the thought.

Don't automatically follow it. Awareness comes before redirection.

    2. What triggered this?

Identify what happened immediately before it.

Was it something someone said? Social media? A memory? Boredom? Fear? Insecurity? Anger? Temptation?

    3. Is this true?

    Separate facts from assumptions.

    What do I actually know?

    What am I assuming?

    Do I have evidence?

Does this agree with what God has said?

    4. Where is this thought taking me?

Is it leading me toward peace, wisdom, obedience, truth, and appropriate action?

Or toward fear, bitterness, lust, jealousy, anger, gossip, comparison, or despair?

    5. What deserves my attention instead?

    Redirect your attention.

Turn toward Scripture, prayer, something productive, journaling, an actual conversation that needs to happen, or simply being present in the life God has given you.

Don't just remove. Replace and redirect.

    Reflection Questions
    • Am I spending more time examining someone else's life than tending to what God has entrusted to me?
    • Have I experienced emotions over situations that only happened in my imagination?
    • Has my imagination become an escape from reality rather than something submitted to God?
    • Am I more emotionally invested in the life I've imagined than the life I'm actually living?
    • What thought have I been feeding that I need to challenge, surrender, or replace?

  • Don't Build a Home in Discouragement | How to Keep Moving Forward

Have you ever been so discouraged that you didn't necessarily want to give up completely, but you also didn't have the energy to keep going?

Maybe you've prayed about something and nothing seems to be changing. Maybe you've been doing what you believe God has called you to do but still aren't seeing results. Or maybe life simply hasn't turned out the way you thought it would.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann talks about overcoming discouragement as a Christian, recognizing what discouragement looks like, and learning how to keep moving forward when you're disappointed, emotionally exhausted, or tired of waiting on God.

Discouragement doesn't always look like giving up. Sometimes you're still working, going to church, handling your responsibilities, and smiling when people ask how you're doing—but internally, you've become tired of trying, tired of hoping, and tired of being disappointed.

Clarisa explores how prolonged discouragement can affect your perspective of yourself, your future, and even God. She also shares why experiencing discouragement doesn't mean you lack faith. Throughout Scripture, we see people of God experience distress, grief, exhaustion, disappointment, and hardship.

The danger isn't simply feeling discouraged. The danger comes when a temporary emotional state becomes a permanent perspective.

Through Psalm 27:14, Psalm 31:24, Deuteronomy 31:6, and Philippians 3:12-15, this episode offers practical and biblical encouragement for processing disappointment, resting when you're emotionally exhausted, changing your perspective, finding courage while you wait, and continuing to take the next step.

If you've been feeling discouraged, stuck, emotionally drained, frustrated with God, or wondering whether anything in your life will change, this episode is a reminder: you can feel discouraged without building your life around discouragement.

    In This Episode

✔ What discouragement does to your thoughts and perspective

✔ Why being discouraged doesn't mean you don't have faith

✔ Signs you may be emotionally exhausted rather than physically tired

✔ How frustration and negative moods can reveal deeper discouragement

✔ Why isolation can make discouragement louder

✔ Why you should be careful making decisions while discouraged

✔ The importance of rest when you're emotionally exhausted

✔ How to process disappointment without allowing your emotions to become your authority

✔ Changing your perspective when your plans don't work out

✔ Finding courage while waiting on God

✔ How to keep moving forward even when you don't feel motivated

    Scripture References

    📖 Psalm 27:14

    📖 Psalm 31:24

    📖 Deuteronomy 31:6

    📖 Philippians 3:12-15

    Key Takeaway

Don't build a home in discouragement.

You can acknowledge that something hurt. You can be disappointed. You can cry, rest, journal, pray, and admit that you're tired.

But discouragement doesn't have to become where you live.

You can be discouraged and still take the next step. You can be disappointed and still trust God. You can be tired and choose to rest instead of quit. You can acknowledge what happened without building your entire life around what happened.

Sometimes courage isn't dramatic. Sometimes courage is simply praying again, applying again, studying again, showing up again, believing again, and trying again.

Discouragement may tell you to stop, but God can give you the courage to continue.

    Reflection Questions
    • What has been discouraging me lately, and how has it affected the way I think about God, myself, or my future?
    • Have I been resting and processing my disappointment, or have I started withdrawing and giving up?
    • What is one step I can take forward even if my circumstances don't immediately change?
    Practical Encouragement

✔ Rest. Rest doesn't mean quitting. Sometimes you need to recover before you can continue.

✔ Let it out. Cry, journal, pray, talk to someone you trust, and be honest with God about what you're experiencing.

✔ Don't let your emotions become your authority. Your feelings are real, but they don't get the final word.

✔ Change your perspective. Your plan not working doesn't mean God no longer has a plan.

✔ Take courage while you wait. You may not know how everything will turn out, but God is still with you.

✔ Take the next step. Don't overwhelm yourself trying to figure out the next ten years. Ask, "God, what are You asking me to do next?"

  • What Are You Suppressing? | Emotional Transparency, Anger, and Healing

Have you ever prayed, “God, show me what is in my heart,” only to become uncomfortable with what He begins revealing?

Welcome to Coffee Conversations, where we have honest conversations about real life through a biblical lens. In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann shares what God has been teaching her about suppressed emotions, unresolved hurt, anger, and the courage it takes to communicate how you truly feel.

For a long time, Clarisa assumed that every troubling thought or strong emotion came from the enemy. She would immediately rebuke feelings of anger, frustration, or distrust without considering that God might be revealing something buried beneath the surface.

Through prayer, therapy, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, she began to recognize that some of those emotions were connected to experiences, offenses, and wounds she had never fully addressed.

Clarisa opens up about how avoiding difficult conversations led to passive aggression, resentment, and emotional cycles that continued to resurface. She also reflects on how past trauma affected her ability to be emotionally transparent with God and with the people closest to her.

This conversation explores the difference between reacting from the flesh and allowing the Holy Spirit to empower you to speak honestly, establish healthy communication, and pursue emotional healing.

If you have struggled to express your feelings, confront hurtful behavior, trust your emotions, or understand why certain people trigger strong reactions in you, this episode will encourage you to bring those emotions before God instead of continuing to suppress them.

    In This Episode

✔ Why every uncomfortable thought is not necessarily an attack from the enemy

✔ What suppressed anger may be revealing about unresolved hurt

✔ Why avoiding conflict does not always create peace

✔ The connection between emotional suppression and passive aggression

✔ How past trauma can affect vulnerability and communication

✔ The meaning of emotional transparency

✔ Why therapy and prayer can both support the healing process

✔ How the Holy Spirit can empower you to have difficult conversations

✔ Why speaking honestly can lead to freedom, healing, and restoration

    Key Takeaway

Emotional transparency can lead to healing and breakthrough.

God may reveal what is in your heart through emotions, memories, triggers, and recurring thoughts. Instead of immediately rebuking or ignoring them, bring them back to Him.

Ask God what the emotion is revealing, what needs to be healed, and whether there is a conversation you need to have.

Suppressing an issue may prevent an outward conflict temporarily, but it can create a deeper conflict within you. God can give you the courage and wisdom to speak honestly without responding from anger, fear, or the flesh.

    Reflection Questions
    • What emotions have I been suppressing instead of bringing honestly before God?
    • Is there someone I feel resentment, distrust, or unresolved anger toward?
    • What am I afraid will happen if I communicate how I truly feel?
    • Could God be revealing something in my heart that I have mistaken for an attack from the enemy?
    • What would emotional transparency guided by the Holy Spirit look like for me?
    A Prayer for Emotional Healing

Lord, search my heart and reveal anything within me that needs Your healing.

Help me recognize the difference between an attack from the enemy and something You are bringing to my attention. Give me the courage to face what I have suppressed and the wisdom to communicate honestly.

Empower me through the Holy Spirit to speak with grace, truth, and self-control. Heal the places where shame, anger, fear, and resentment have taken root. Help me trust that I do not have to face difficult conversations or painful memories alone.

    In Jesus’ name, amen.

  • How Close Is Too Close? | Are Your Boundaries Leading You Toward God or Sin?

Have you ever caught yourself asking questions like, "How much is too much?" "Is this really a sin?" or "God knows my heart." Those questions may reveal something deeper than we realize.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann explores why believers often search for the line instead of pursuing holiness. Through personal stories about dating, friendships, entertainment, and everyday temptations, she challenges listeners to ask a different question:

Instead of asking, "How close can I get to sin?" what if we asked, "How close can I stay to Christ?"

Using the picture of standing close enough to a fire to feel its warmth without getting burned, Clarisa explains how compromise rarely begins with obvious rebellion. More often, it starts with small justifications, self-made boundaries, and the belief that we're strong enough to stop before we fall.

This episode examines why the flesh loves loopholes, why biblical boundaries are designed to protect—not restrict—our relationship with God, and why Scripture repeatedly calls believers to flee temptation instead of testing their spiritual strength.

If you've been wrestling with temptation, unhealthy relationships, entertainment choices, or wondering whether your boundaries are truly honoring Christ, this episode offers practical biblical wisdom for pursuing holiness in everyday life.

    In This Episode

✔ Why the flesh looks for loopholes instead of holiness

✔ The difference between biblical boundaries and self-made boundaries

✔ Why compromise often begins long before obvious sin

✔ How dating, friendships, and entertainment can influence your walk with Christ

✔ Why God calls believers to flee temptation instead of flirting with it

✔ Lessons from Joseph's response to temptation

✔ How boundaries reveal what we truly treasure

✔ Practical ways to protect your relationship with God

    Scriptures to Read This Week

Take time to meditate on these passages and ask the Lord to reveal areas where your boundaries may need to be strengthened.

    • Proverbs 4:23-27 – Guard your heart and don't swerve to the right or left.
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:22 – Abstain from every form of evil.
    • 2 Timothy 2:22 – Flee youthful passions.
    • 1 Corinthians 6:18 – Flee sexual immorality.
    • Genesis 39 – Joseph didn't negotiate with temptation; he ran.
    • Psalm 1:1 – Notice the progression: walking, standing, and sitting with the wicked.
    • Matthew 5:29-30 – Jesus teaches radical measures against sin.
    • Romans 13:14 – Make no provision for the flesh.
    Key Takeaway

Biblical boundaries aren't about seeing how close you can get to sin without crossing the line. They're about protecting what matters most—your relationship with Jesus.

Wisdom doesn't ask, "How close can I get?" Wisdom asks, "Why am I standing so close to something God told me to flee?"

Sometimes the most spiritual decision you can make isn't proving your strength—it's simply walking away.

    Reflection Questions
    • What boundary have I slowly moved that God never moved?
    • Am I trying to avoid sin, or am I trying to stay close enough to enjoy it?
    • What practical boundary would help me pursue holiness this week?

  • Have You Ever Felt Forgotten by God? | Holding On When the Breakthrough Hasn't Come

Have you ever felt like you're living the same year over and over again? Like you're making progress in some areas of your life, but other areas seem completely stuck?

This episode is a Coffee Conversation—a more relaxed, honest, and personal conversation about what has been on my heart lately.

In this episode of Purified and Proven, Clarisa Mann shares openly about walking through mental warfare, spiritual exhaustion, and seasons where it feels like God has forgotten you. Instead of teaching through a structured outline, she invites listeners into her own journey of wrestling with discouragement while choosing to continue trusting God's promises.

Drawing encouragement from Psalm 13, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, and Hebrews 4:16, Clarisa discusses what it looks like to keep seeking God when breakthrough feels delayed, when negative thoughts seem relentless, and when you're tempted to believe that nothing is changing.

She also shares how God has continued to strengthen her through small victories, reminding her that growth isn't always immediately visible and that faith is often built in the waiting.

If you've been battling anxiety, spiritual fatigue, disappointment, or wondering whether God still sees you, this episode is a reminder that your feelings are not the final truth. God has not forgotten you, and He is still working—even when you cannot yet see the outcome.

    Key Takeaway

Feeling forgotten does not mean you have been forgotten.

There will be seasons when the battle feels long, your prayers seem unanswered, and your breakthrough appears delayed. But God's faithfulness isn't determined by how you feel. Even when you cannot see Him working, He is strengthening your faith, shaping your character, and leading you one step at a time.

Don't give up. Keep bringing your burdens to Jesus. The same God who carried David through seasons of despair is still carrying you today.

    Reflection Questions
    • Where have I allowed discouragement to convince me that God has forgotten me?
    • What evidence of God's faithfulness have I overlooked because I'm focused on what's still unfinished?
    • What would it look like to trust God's character, even before I understand His timing?
    Practical Encouragement

✔ Bring your honest emotions to God instead of hiding them.

✔ Remember the victories God has already given you, even if they seem small.

✔ Write down the life you hope to build and continually surrender those desires to God.

✔ Keep returning to the throne of grace when you're weary.

✔ Don't let temporary feelings determine your eternal hope.
