The Tuskegee experiment ended 40 years only because Peter Buxton, a Public Health Service investigator, discovered the study and expressed his concern of how unethical it was. In response, Public Health Service officials formed a committee to review the study but continued anyways since their objective was at stake. Buxton was then furious so he decided to tell a reporter friend about the study who told a fellow reporter, Jean Heller. Jean the wrote an article trying to prompt public outrage in July 1972 which forced the study to close finally on November 16,1972. Then on May 16, 1997 the apology finally comes. The purpose of Scientific Humanities is to educate others of unethical scientific experiments because a better tomorrow starts with us individually. Share and tell someone what happened.
