Every one of us has some behaviors or habits in our lives that we can’t control. Many people remain in bondage to their addictions because they are unable to even acknowledge they’ve got a problem. But Jesus is the true Higher Power you need to set you free. Jesus said, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36 Nothing is impossible for Him.

The one thing that motivates me more than anything else is to be able to stand before the one who died on a cross for me and see Him look in my eyes and hear Him say, “Well done. You were a good and faithful servant.”I don’t have to be a good and flashy servant. I just have to be a good and faithful servant. In honor of the faithfulness of God to us, let’s be people God can count on....in the home, at work, at church...

We have a God who loved us so much He gave His life for us...and then rose from the dead. When we read in His word that He is preparing a place for us in heaven and coming back for us, we believe Him because He is a God who’s demonstrated thousands of times that He is always faithful to us.

The Apostle Paul says that the good works God wants us to accomplish were “prepared in advance for us to do.” God is not leaving anything to chance here. Not only does God define goodness and forgive us for falling short of His goodness, and not only does God give us the power to do good works, but He also prepares and provides the opportunity ahead of time.

We don’t have the power to do good on our own. We are not intrinsically good. Goodness does not just naturally flow out of us. The power to do good comes from God alone and it comes in the context of our own faults and brokenness.

Apart from God, our natural tendency is to look to find someone who is worse than us and compare ourselves to them. On that basis, we begin thinking, “Hey, I am a pretty good person!” However, Jesus says in Mark 10:18, “No one is good, except God alone.” The Psalmist writes, “For the Lord is good, and His love endures forever.” Psalm 100:5
