The message of the cross as the only means by which God forgives sin causes some to question why. Why doesn’t God just forgive us in the same way He commands us to forgive others? The answer? The inevitable collision that takes place between His holiness and our humanness. Though God is a God of love and mercy, He is simultaneously a God of justice and holiness. This morning we’ll take a look at ourselves from God’s perspective.

The word authority is a strong one filled with meaning. It denotes permission, power, rule, control, and privilege. Because Jesus held all authority, He didn't need any man's permission to do, teach, and heal. But this caused issues with the Jewish leaders who falsely believed they were the only ones able to grant permission. They confront Jesus in the temple with a question involving authority and Jesus responds with a question of His own that reveals their unbelieving hearts.

It's been said that trials don't make or break a person, they only reveal the person. That was true of the disciples as they encounter both a physical and emotional storm while on the Sea of Galilee. As they witness calm the wind and waves with just a word, it prompts a fear even greater than the storm itself.

In our culture leaving children things like large sums of wealth, impressive estates, or a good name are the things most fathers think about passing on. But as Christian dads our primary focus should be leaving things that transcend both time and space. When we’re gone, what things of lasting value will our kids have received from us? That’ll be our topic as we speak to the importance of legacy.

In the bibical record Jesus never encountered a more refined representative of Judaism than Nicodemus, in spite of his impressive resume Jesus tells him he must be born again to enter the kingdom. Salvation demands a new beginning, a genuine transformation on the inside that results in undeniable changes on the outside.
