August 02, 2019294 - Follow Along - Sidney SmithI have the chance to catch up with Sidney Smith. It’s been a few months since we did an edition of the follow along and we talk about how life has been going, his focus, and what it’s like for him to still train with Florida in mind. One of my big take away’s from this episode is making the purpose greater than the pain. The plan is to have his coach on with him next time and also more frequent episodes with the follow along.-Follow Sidney,Facebook: Sidney SmithInstagram: @tri_nofeet-Shout outs:Intermountain Health CareBalanced Art MultisportMountain OpsWahooRapid RebootWink NaturalChallenged Athletes FoundationAmputee Blade RunnersJeff Sherrod @ Precision Bike Fit@sherrod.jeffCoach Andrew Stasinos: @bamdrew_stasfit@balancedartmultisport...more28minPlay
August 01, 2019293 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Coeur d'Alene - Meghan FaulkenberryI have the pleasure of catching up with Meghan after her race in Idaho. We talk about some of the mental tactics going into this race as far as mental capacity on the run, and what it’s like to have perseverance as well. When energy is low, how does one keep pushing and striving for more. That’s all wrapped up into this episode. Plus, we talk about the course and some tips for those who haven’t done this course before. July 31, 2019292 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Coure d'Alene - Kayla BowkerKayla if an amazing athlete and has been to Kona twice. We talk about what it’s like to have an extreme eating disorder and then channeling positive energy into a solid work ethic. This course is such fun and in years past it’s been even colder water. Some highlights from this interview is how she doesn’t let pregnancy change her but how she adapts and changes with the pregnancy. She’s not a delicate flower and no one that is pregnant should be thought to be one either. This was her fourth triathlon this season she competed in being pregnant. Others were: Texas 70.3 (8weeks), St. George 70.3 (12 weeks), Chattanooga 70.3 (14 weeks), and this one at 19 weeks. July 29, 2019291 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Mont Tremblant - Jackson Laundry OVERALL WINNERJackson comes back on the show and we talk about his Win at the IRONMAN© 70.3 Mont Tremblant. He’s done a few races already this year and this was his first win of the season. Some things we discuss in detail are how he uses and all liquid breakfast before the race and what goes into it as well as some a certain reason to never do a countdown. His coach, James and him set up a plan and the execution was nearly perfect. This race is a solid athlete experience, and everyone should consider doing this race. Thanks for coming back on the show Jackson, good luck in Nice, France at the World Championship.-Weather that day: 59 - 89Water: WSL-Age Group: PROHeight: 5’9”Weight: 149Calories per hour: 360PSI for this course: 95F/90FDepth of Wheels: 88mm Front/DiscSwim: 24:18T1: 2:07Bike: 2:06:31T2: XX:51Run: 1:14:31Total Race Time: 3:48:25-Gender Rank: 1Division Rank: 1Overall Rank: 1-Follow Jackson,Facebook: Jackson Laundry TriathleteInstagram: @JacksonLaundrytri-Sponsors:Alto: https://altocycling.com/Blue Seventy: https://www.blueseventy.com/Coach James Loaring: https://www.loaringpersonalcoaching.com/ DK Orthotic Solutions: www.dkos.ca1st Endurance: https://firstendurance.com/Ventum: https://ventumracing.com/LPC Hurdle Project: https://www.loaringpersonalcoaching.com/teamlpc-hurdle-project.html LPC Triathlon Club: https://www.loaringpersonalcoaching.com/lpc-triathlon-club.html Ownway Apparel: http://ownwayapparel.com/ Prolutions: prolutionspm.com Velofix Hamilton: https://www.velofix.com/locations/hamilton/Zizu Optics: https://www.zizuoptics.com/-Follow Coach Terry:Instagram: @PerfectRacePodcast...more1h 13minPlay
July 24, 2019290 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Mont Tremblant - Taylor Reid Professional290 - IRONMAN© 70.3 Mont Tremblant - Taylor Reid Professional-I really enjoyed catching up with professional triathlete Taylor Reid in this episode. We talk about all the training he does going into the races as well as what he does in the off time. Like play xbox and hang out. He’s been doing triathlon ever since he graduated university, and is a complete history buff. Older history than I like, but none the less he knows his stuff. As someone that struggles with reading myself, we talk about how having dyslexia for him empowered him through delayed gratification. This is a really fun episode and I really enjoyed talking with Taylor. Thank you so much for coming on the show sir, I look forward to following you in the future.-Weather that day: 59-79Water: WSL-Age Group: PRO Height: 5’7”Weight: 140lbsCalories per hour: 450hr/900totalPSI for this course: 87lbsDepth of Wheels: disc/86mmBike Elevation Gain:Run Elevation Gain: Swim: 24:16T1: 2:10Bike: 2:13:34T2: 00:51Run: 1:14:44Total Race Time: 3:55:35-Gender Rank: 5 Division Rank: 5Overall Rank: 5-Follow Taylor,Facebook: Taylor ReidInstagram: @tc_reid-Follow Coach Terry:Instagram: @PerfectRacePodcast-1st EnduranceAltoCanadian Cross Training ClubCompressportIsmMarsquestOgioProvincial RoofingRiplaceRoyal Containers ltd.SLF MotionTriathlon OntarioTriflareVelofixWicked AudioZone3...more1h 17minPlay
July 23, 2019289 - Escape from Alcatraz - Leslie Williamson289 - Escape from Alcatraz - Leslie Williamson-I’m able to spend some time talking with local Texan Leslie Williamson about her race in San Francisco at the Escape From Alcatraz. We talk about some of the good things she did along with some mistakes she made on race morning. Most folks I talk with about their races travel with their bikes, but not all of them. Leslie rented a bike locally and we discuss the details surrounding the rental situation and how that works. Some of the most obvious things we talk about is the shirt this year and how someone didn’t proofread things entirely as well as the famous boat ride to the starting point in the middle of the bay by Alcatraz. One of the biggest things we talk about is what made her give up the Vegan lifestyle and start eating meat again! This is a must for anyone looking for information on what it’s like to be vegan then go back to meat as well as her reasoning and how her body felt before, during, and after. Thank you Leslie for spending some time with me. July 19, 2019288 - Ultraman Aus. - Brianna Frank288 – Ultraman Australia – Briana Frank-Ultraman is not for everyone. If you don’t have the mental capacity to be alone in your mind for countless hours, it’s not for you. Briana not only talks about why she wants to do this race, but what it means for her. The logistics for the race is tough and we talk about her race and what the training looked like. Her coach is also a critical part of how she is able to accomplish this phenomenal race. I enjoyed this conversation and learned so much from this interview. July 16, 2019287 - IRONMAN© Boulder - Ashley DrayerIn this episode I talk with an athlete I coach, Ashley Drayer about her first full distance triathlon. I’m surprised to find out some goals she has for the long term. She shares how she manages two jobs, time with her wonderful children, as well as time with her very supportive spouse. Her support from Jake is true and faithful and every athlete deserves to have the love and support that Jake gives Ashley. Over the past years she went through depression due to some injuries, ACL and PCL surgeries, as well as nearly amputated leg. We discuss this in detail and how that is part of why she does endurance sports and how amazing it was to hit the taper. Thank you for taking the time to come on the podcast Ashley. July 15, 2019286 - IRONMAN© Boulder - Lauren Brandon OVERALL WINNEROverall wins are always an amazing story to share. I’ve learned through the hundreds of episodes that the winners of the races are struggling just as much to win as the last few athletes are to finish. The bond that the winners and the last few finishers are always amazing. I’m privileged and honored to talk with the humble Lauren Brandon about her win for the sunset year of Boulder. She talks and we laugh about her race and the excitement of not only this race but also other races in comparison. She passes on some tips and tricks she’s learned from the years of racing as well. Thank you so much Lauren for your time and the opportunity to share your story with the world. July 13, 2019285 - IRONMAN© Boulder - Professional Triathlete Danielle MackI have the pleasure of talking with Danielle Mack about her recent Kona Qualifying race at BOULDER! Sadly, this was the last race for this year and the race will no longer be returning to Boulder. We discuss her past with racing and her health conditions. While she’s been to Kona as an age grouper, finishing at this race with a slot to the big island is such an emotional experience and we talk about what this means for her. Something many folks do not know about her is that she still meditates every day. I should certainly take notes on this.
