This week I sit down and talk authenticity and advocacy with Nishee Moore. Nishe’e Moore is not your traditional millennial wife and mother! When she’s not advocating for female veterans, like herself, she’s advocating for the holistic maturation of young women, mental health in all women and safe mental journeys for new mothers.

 Currently a stay at home boy mom, she has been able to work on passion projects like, being the Workshop Coordinator for Precious Me Inc., at the Lawrenceville Boys and Girls Club, speaking on topics like mental and emotional health during Women’s T.E.A Circle, Year Up’s Women’s Group, and establishing a mommy meet up/ support group called Breathe Babyy, that caters to new moms navigating through postpartum anxiety, depression, and adjustment.

In this episode I sit down with the awe-inspiring and incredibly sweet, RaQuita Weathers. She is the founder and creator of both Belle Rouge Photography and Lifestylish Magazine. We talked about her experience with mothering two kiddos all while holding down the main job and expanding her many side hustles. She's a phenomenal photographer (if you've seen my recent brand photos, she was my photographer) that does maternity, lifestyle and branding shoots. Her creative juices are always flowing and she's constantly thinking of "what can I do next". What I found so inspiring about my conversation with her is that she never lets motherhood hinder her from her passions. If it's something that she loves to do, she figures out a way to do it while also balancing all of the other responsibilities that she has. She's quite a jack of all trades, I'd say. My good friend, Candace Johnson, and I meet up on an early Saturday morning to catch the first show of the day of RESPECT (trying to be as safe and careful as possible in these variant streets). Felicia Wynter is a mother of many trades. After two surprise pregnancies, she still managed to adjust to motherhood despite the personal challenges that accompanied it. She's an educator, she's a realtor, she's pursuing her doctorate's degree, and she also owns an event planning company called, Pink Carpet, LLC. One would ask how does she do it all? But a huge takeaway that Felicia mentions during her interview was a quote that her husband told her "I'd rather suffer the pain of discipline than the pain of regret". Sooooooo.......one of my best friends asked me, "Have you watched Sex/Life on Netflix yet? You should totally watch it." Then a week later another friend texted, "Have you watched Sex/Life yet? It's about a motherhood and how her life changes after she has kids. Oh, and there's a lot of sex." and then I go to my skin appointment and she asks, "Have you watched Sex/Life yet?"....which led me to, okay, let me watch this much talked about film. Stuck at home with a new baby and unfulfilled by her sex life with Cooper, Billie's consumed with explicit flashbacks of sex with Brad — a leather-jacketed bad boy who frequently gave Billie neon-lit orgasms in nightclubs, stairwells and elevators. Sex/Life poses all kinds of worthy (though Carrie Bradshaw-esque) questions about Billie's pleasure. (Can you have a great marriage without great sex? What does it mean to fantasies about an ex?)

I sit down with British born mum, Lisa Baker, and she shares her story of growing up as a child of a celebrity, traveling the world with music being a huge prop in the background, and knowing early on that she wanted to be a mother. Not all of us begin our motherhood journey early. According to the recent US Census, more birthing parents are choosing to become parents at ages 30-38. Based on old medical terms, doctors used to refer to pregnancies that happened in women over the age of 35 as "geriatric pregnancies". Lisa gave birth to her son, Hudson, later in life and now pregnant with her second in her early 40's she refutes the term, geriatric pregnancy. She shares how she always embraced the idea of motherhood regardless of her age and if age played any factor, it was influencing how many children she had. She also shares the challenges she faced in having a C-Section and how her husband was incredible support for her during this very difficult time.

I had the pleasure of having a conversation with the incredibly talented Sophia Barrett, about her journey to motherhood. She talks about her early childhood experiences, being a child of immigrant parents and the struggles of growing up in Massachusetts. Sophia was candid and honest about her difficulty to accept her diagnosis of infertility and how she viewed herself as a woman. But the powerful piece that she shares was how becoming a foster parent shifted her view of motherhood and led her to adopt her daughter, Emi. She also talks about balancing being a wife, mother, and a business owner of the hottest photography studio in Atlanta, Ga. I also talk about my personal experience with booking Sophia to capture my family portraits and how I wish I could gift this experience to every woman I know.
