Pushing the Pile: A CBS Sports NFL Podcast

We made it to a non-virtual draft night. To celebrate the occasion, Will Brinson welcomes Josh Edwards to address the final burning questions heading into the 1st round. The Broncos acquired Teddy Bridgewater from the Panthers on Wednesday, so what will that mean for Denver at #9 and the teams around them? The guys also discuss the most debated pick and what the 49ers will do at #3. Which team is most likely to trade up to target a quarterback? Each year, there are risers and there are fallers and Josh does his best to identify a few candidates for both categories. Finally, who will be the next pick after the big names go off the board? For example, we know Ja'Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle are the Big 3 wide receivers, but who will be WR4?

The Pick Six Superfriends gather, as they often do around big events, to make bold predictions for the 2021 NFL Draft. Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech all have some wild, yet not absolutely improbably, predictions for how things will go down on Thursday night. We know that there should be a heavy run of offensive players to kick off the draft, but how long will that stretch continue? There's all sorts of speculation around #3 and while the obvious choice appears to be Mac Jones, Brinson takes it in another direction for the 49ers. The guys mix in draft props as they predict when players and positions will be off the board.

We're answering questions from YOU the listeners on this special NFL Draft mailbag episode. The Pick Six Superfriends answer questions from Apple Podcasts. Could the NFL implement a draft lottery, similar to the NBA? Could a team of this year's top prospects compete for the playoffs next season? Ryan Wilson defends his mock draft record and stands by his guy, Mac Jones. The Jaguars aren't interested in dealing #1 overall but if they were, what kind of return would Trevor Lawrence command? The guys share their thoughts on the likelihood of the Steelers selecting a RB at #24 and speculate on what Bill Belichick has in plan for the Patriots at quarterback.

You may care about who your team will take on Thursday night, or you may care about how you can make money during the 2021 NFL Draft. R.J. White joins Will Brinson to offer advice if you prefer the latter. R.J. and Will go through the entire first round, highlight draft props to target including player over/unders, exact position picks, total players at a position picked in the first round, 1st player to be selected at each position and much more. White feels strongly about a certain Alabama player going under his total and likes a longshot featuring another Crimson Tide product. Listen for a comprehensive draft props preview!

Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to answer questions from the Pick Six mailbag. If you could re-do certain moments in NFL history, what would they be? Then, it's time to poke fun at the Bengals. What rules from soccer would work for football? All those questions answered and more on the mailbag.

We've made it to the secondary and our last group of prospect position rankings. Will Brinson welcomes on Josh Edwards to break down his top 10 defensive backs, combining both cornerbacks and safeties onto the same list. It's a list that includes several players with famous football-playing fathers including #10 Asante Samuel Jr, #5 Jaycee Horn and #1 Patrick Surtain II. Trevon Moehrig out of TCU is the highest-rated safety according to Josh, but the Top 10 is dominated by CBs. We know a slew of them will be selected in the first round, but there remains uncertainty about which one will be first off the board...

Time to tackle the top EDGE and LB prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft and to do so, Will Brinson welcomes on Josh Edwards for his Top 5 guys at each position. 2 Miami players make the list at EDGE, but neither hold the top spot. Who holds that distinction (2:45)? We also examine the LBs (22:45) with a focus on who could be the 1st player off the board. Micah Parsons out of Penn State is the obvious answer, but Will and Josh try to look for value. Jamin Davis from Kentucky is a name to keep an eye on in case Parsons slips.

The prospect rankings continue as Chris Trapasso joins Will Brinson to break down his top offensive line and defensive line players in the 2021 NFL Draft. We start with the side that has much more enticing prospects and that's the OL (4:30). Alijah Vera-Tucker is a promising player out of USC climbing up draft boards, but Trapasso has him lower than most because he thinks he projects on the interior at the next level. Rashawn Slater could be considered the consensus #2 tackle prospect, but Chris has him lower. There's no hesitation in labeling Penei Sewell the best of the bunch, but that doesn't mean there is value on him to be the first OL selected. Christian Darrisaw might be worth thinking about as a value play though. Next, the guys switch sides and hit on the top DTs in this class (24:45). Expect only 1-2 to be chosen in the 1st round.

This episode continues to cover skill position prospects in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Emory Hunt joins Will Brinson to focus on the running backs in this year's class. 2 UNC RBs land inside the Top 10, but Emory ranks 1 much higher and 1 much lower than the consensus. Trey Sermon balled out on a big stage at Ohio State, but will his game translate to the next level? Jermar Jefferson, Khalil Herbert and Pooka Williams are names to keep an eye on as well. Then, we get to the #3 slot which features Travis Etienne, who some have as the top back in 2021. The Alabama product, Najee Harris, leads the way, but Emory still says not to count on a RB being selected in the 1st round.
