Pushing the Pile: A CBS Sports NFL Podcast

Last week we covered the quarterbacks and this week we're hitting all the other positions, previewing the top prospects in each group. On this episode Ryan Wilson joins Will Brinson to break down the top wide receivers and tight ends in the 2021 NFL Draft. But first, the guys offer their reactions to the end of a super impressive career from Alex Smith (4:15). Smith announced his retirement on Monday after years as an above-average quarterback and one of the most miraculous comebacks in league history. Then, Ryan dishes his Top 10 WR prospect rankings (13:15). Pay attention to names like Rondale Moore, Amari Rodgers and Tylan Wallace as we get to Day 2 and beyond. But up top is where the real focus is as Ja'Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle are in a class of their own. We analyze what's so special about their games and where they could be selected. Then, our attention shifts to the tight ends led by Kyle Pitts (41:00). There more than likely won't be another TE picked in the 1st round, but still plenty to be impressed by and potentially surprised by in this class.

It's the penultimate Mock Draft Monday this season as we take a deep look at Ryan Wilson's Big Board of prospects. Trevor Lawrence is #1 and there's not much more to say about him that hasn't been said already. After Lawrence though, things get interesting. The guys examine certain discrepancies between Big Board Ranking and where Ryan has these prospects slated to go in his latest mock. For example, Kyle Pitts is the #2 prospect for Wilson, but we all know the Jets won't be taking the Florida TE at that position in a couple of weeks. 2 wide receivers sit inside Ryan's Top 5 and only 2 quarterbacks fall inside the Top 10. Who are they? Listen for full Big Board analysis!

Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to answer questions from the Pick Six mailbag. The guys first discuss the 49ers thought process at #3 and why Mac Jones shouldn't be considered a lock in that spot. Hello, Justin Fields! The Pick Six Superfriends then address if we've been too harsh collectively on Tua Tagovailoa after a disappointing rookie season under some tough circumstances. If you could pick 2 teams ever to play in the Super Bowl, who would they be? Wilson goes for the winless Lions vs. the winless Browns. Who will have the better pro career: Kyle Pitts or Ja'Marr Chase?Could we see a team permanently based in the UK? All those questions answered and more on the mailbag.

Mac Jones seems to be the main prospect in this draft class that you HAVE to take a side on. You're either for him or against him and Ryan Wilson could be labeled as one of his biggest supporters. On this episode Ryan joins Will Brinson to break down why he has been so high on Jones throughout the entire draft process and why ultimately he should be considered a better prospect than Tua Tagovailoa was last year. Listen for an in-depth breakdown of the Alabama product and what will translate to the next level. The guys also evaluate where he could land in the draft and it seems more and more likely he'll be the target for the 49ers at #3.

Trey Lance is the wildcard of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has outstanding production in a limited sample size from a school school, which is a formula for great upside but also great uncertainty. On this episode Emory Hunt joins Will Brinson to help break down the North Dakota State prospect. First, the guys detail what Lance brings to the table and follow that up with all the options of where he could land in the draft.

Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence entered college as closely-ranked high school recruits and prospects and many thought they'd enter the NFL Draft 1-2 as well. In the past few months, Lawrence has remained at the top of the class, but other quarterbacks have risen above Fields. That's a mistake according to Tom Fornelli. On this episode, Tom tells Will Brinson why teams (especially the Jets and 49ers) shouldn't be sleeping on the Ohio State product when the draft arrives. The guys break down Fields' game, highlighting all the things he does exceptionally well. While Zach Wilson and Mac Jones appear like the #2 and #3 picks at the moment, laying some money on Fields to go in one of those spots might return some value.

Zach Wilson saw a meteoric rise up draft boards during the 2020 season, all while playing at BYU. Now the consensus #2 QB and #2 pick, there's a lot to uncover about Wilson's game and to do that, Will Brinson chats with Josh Edwards for a complete quarterback profile. Josh breaks down strengths and weaknesses of Wilson's game, some of his pro comparisons and how ready he is to step in right away if in fact the Jets do select him 2nd overall.

Trevor Lawrence is the surefire #1 pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. That has been a given for years now, but he's still intriguing as a prospect. He's certainly interesting when compared to some of the greatest prospects ever alongside John Elway, Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. Chris Trapasso joins Will Brinson to break down why he has Lawrence at the top of his list, highlighting plenty of his strengths and nitpicking at slim weaknesses. The guys also discuss what the Clemson product will be able to accomplish with the Jaguars right away.

Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson to break down the 2021 NFL Draft for the 9th edition of Mock Draft Monday here on the Pick Six podcast. We've spent a lot of time discussing the first 16 picks of the draft, so on this episode we start by focusing on the bottom half of the 1st round. Ryan predicts a heavy run of EDGE rushers and corners to go off the board in that range. The guys also discuss the Falcons trade options, the Seahawks extremely unlikely path back to the first round, LB scenarios for the Bills and how many wide receivers could be selected in the 1st.

Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to answer questions from the Pick Six mailbag. Our beloved Raiders are the first team we discuss, evaluating Jon Gruden, Derek Carr and Las Vegas' chances to compete with the Chiefs. One listener thinks Josh Allen greatly benefited from the lack of fans in 2020. Should he be worried about Allen in 2021?
