Pushing the Pile: A CBS Sports NFL Podcast

Our offseason priority series continues with a focus on the NFC North. On this episode, Will Brinson and Jordan Dajani tackle the needs for the Lions (4:00), Vikings (13:30), Bears (21:00) and Packers (28:45). Detroit has a new coach and a new quarterback and pretty much needs help across the board. But where should they target first? Minnesota has some pieces but could use a boost at all three levels of their defense. We then arrive at Chicago and a looming decision they must make on the future of Mitchell Trubisky with their organization. Green Bay is in a good spot but their roster building will be critical for getting them over the hump after two consecutive NFC Championship Game losses.

There has been plenty of quarterback movement already this offseason with free agency still a few weeks away. That movement could continue with several notable quarterbacks set to hit the open market. Now Dak Prescott is in a class by himself and the Cowboys have to make a decision on his future at some point. On this episode, Ryan Wilson and John Breech break down the top 8 free agent QBs and their most logical landing spots. The guys focus on Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mitchell Trubisky and of course, Andy Dalton.

Our offseason priority series continues with a focus on the AFC North. Ryan Wilson, John Breech and Josh Edwards tackle the needs of the Bengals (5:00), Browns (17:00), Ravens (31:00) and Steelers (43:15). In Cincy, it's all about supporting Joe Burrow. The Bengals have a top pick and plenty of money to spend, but they must approach this offseason wisely (not always a given for that franchise). Cleveland is coming off its most successful season in years and looks to build upon their future, which may not include Odell Beckham Jr. anymore. As of now, Baltimore actually has the best Super Bowl odds in the division, but must aim to add more weapons around Lamar Jackson. And Pittsburgh...There's lots of questions with free agents but the bigger lingering question is with Ben Roethlisberger and his diminished play. Check out all the draft and free agency priorities for the AFC North on this episode.

The evaluation process for the 2021 NFL Draft gets complicated when you factor in several top prospects that didn't play college football in 2020. No worries though! Ryan Wilson and Josh Edwards have you covered on the opt outs that could be selected in the 1st round and some that could be Day 2 or Day 3 picks. Ryan and Josh cover Penei Sewell, Ja'Marr Chase, Micah Parsons, Caleb Farley, Gregory Rousseau and others to help you understand their game and where they could be slotted on draft boards. The guys also discuss some potential trade options for the Dolphins and have to talk some quarterbacks as well.

The Pick Six Superfriends gather for the first mailbag of the offseason. First, Deebo addresses a bold prediction that turned out to be very wrong in 2020. The guys also answer how many wins the Chargers will have next season, the team that gets the least amount of media coverage and what team is most likely to be relocated. Will a secondary football league ever really succeed? The guys then get a bit existential before sharing embarrassing stories of each other (again).

Carson Wentz will be a Colt next season. On Thursday, the Eagles finally decided to trade their former franchise QB. On this emergency episode, Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson, John Breech and Deebo react to the deal. How did it get to this point for Philadelphia? What do the guys think of the compensation? Are the Colts true contenders next year with Wentz? All those questions and more are answered.

Ah, the NFC East. The division was a disaster in 2020, which means all four teams have a laundry list of offseason priorities before we get to 2021. On this episode, Will Brinson, Jared Dubin and Cody Benjamin break down the top needs for the Eagles (2:05), Cowboys (14:45), Giants (27:30) and Washington (42:45). First, Philadelphia is a mess and could trade their quarterback at any moment. But what happens after that? The list for Dallas is simpler. Get Dak Prescott figured out and some other things could fall into place. Is a Saquon Barkley extension coming and how much will it cost New York? And WFT...Who's your QB?

Somehow, a 4-12 team has captured more offseason headlines than any other. The Texans remain a talking point in NFL circles and not for the right reasons. While they probably pulled their best PR move in a while with the amicable release of JJ Watt, they showcased a double standard when it comes to how they've handled Deshaun Watson. On this episode, Will Brinson is joined by Jonathan Jones to break down what's happening in Houston. And now that Watt is a free agent, where could he end up? The bigger prize is Watson, as the guys suggest more teams that could be in the mix, highlighted by the Carolina Panthers. And what happens if Watson isn't dealt? JJ thinks he better be prepared to hold out or skip games after taking this stand. The conversation extends into this current era of playerment empowerment, specifically for star quarterbacks. But don't get it twisted, this doesn't have much to do with Tom Brady's switch last year. This movement has been building for some time now. Carson Wentz was horrible in 2020 and is still likely going to get his trade wish granted, so that tells you all you need to know!

Teams have long been thinking about the offseason and we're now thinking about free agency and the draft as well. Over the next 4 weeks, we'll be tackling offseason priorities for each team, one division at a time. On this episode: the AFC East! Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and John Breech break down the focal points between now and late April for the Jets (2:45), Dolphins (12:10), Patriots (26:45) and Bills (36:00). First, the Jets have a decision to make at #2 in the draft but could that be influenced by another quarterback currently on the market? It's astounding to say, but the Dolphins might just be in the quarterback hunt after a disappointing rookie season from Tua Tagovailoa. Tom Brady won the "who's more important" battle over Bill Belichick in 2020, but what's the path for New England to re-enter the contender discussion in 2021? Buffalo is coming off one of their best campaigns in decades and their attention should be on retaining their nucleus and possibly giving Josh Allen a big payday.

Welcome to draft season! Each Monday over the next few months, the Pick Six feed will be dedicated to draft content and mock drafts (with plenty of mid-week coverage as well). We start things today with a set-up of things to come. Trevor Lawrence is the blatantly obvious #1 overall selection as Ryan Wilson details what makes him such a great prospect. Then, we shift focus to the rest of the quarterback class and Wilson's unique rankings. Who's the 2nd-best QB behind Lawrence? Is it Justin Fields, Zach Wilson Mac Jones or even Trey Lance? Quarterbacks tend to dominate the pre-draft discussion, so we set the table here but will cover everything you need to know in the coming weeks regarding the 2021 NFL Draft.
